Only a nit picking photographer would notice that the ice isn’t floating, ie not real!

Not meant as a criticism, just after years working in studio, non floating ice is the first thing I notice on any drinks ad. And the colour was just something I was “wondering” about. The glass looks more of a whiskey colour, so I’d probably alter the bottle in post. Still a great shot though.

    Nicely done!

I did wonder why the liquid in the bottle is a different colour to the glass?

I love shooting products, I used to shoot stuff like this on 5×4 trannys. Sadly there’s  hardly any of this work about this days : (

I did a lot of work for a company, mainly because what they made was shiny and almost impossible to photograph. The woman that I dealt with was great and they gave me regular work for years.

Then she got pregnant and replaced by a guy who didn’t have a clue!

The first thing he did was email me to say that he’d seen our prices on our website and could we do it cheaper. The second thing was to say that he wanted BETTER photos and he sent me some pics from a competitors site, to show me how it should be done.

The pics he sent were AWFUL, full of reflections, burnt out high lights and shadows.

So I emailed back saying that,  as regular customers they didn’t pay the same rates listed on our site, and just what was it that was BETTER about the pics.

Turns out that he liked them more, because they were close ups. The fact that they were dreadful and I hadn’t done close ups because I was told not to by his predecessor, didn’t seem to matter. This guys job title is head advertising and  digital media. But I now have to supply images in low res web sizes, because he doesn’t know how to resize them.

The point of my story, A picture is only worth a thousand words. If you know what a picture is meant to look like.

I’d say your pictures are fine. If you want, we could pull each one apart. But that’s true of any picture.

You’ve titled this thread website feedback, so here’s my opinion of it.

It works well and navigates easily, but many of the pics don’t fit layout.

The first pic, girl with umbrella looks to tight, the second pic guy with sunglasses look awful as the menu bar goes right through his eyes.

In fact the menu bar wrecks a lot of the pics.

Some of your pics don’t seem sharp enough for such a large display area.

But my main concern is that you seem to have only  “life style” content. This is usually one of a selection of services offered. I can’t help wondering if it’s too niche a market?

I’m charging up those flash batteries,

Sorry, but you ain’t gonna make it with that attitude. A real faux would need to skulk off and buy some more AA’s mid job.

    Oh hang a minute……….. I’ve done that!

Another great post there TRAINWRECK. I’m usually the one who touts the “less is more” approach. Your post shows why!

I shoot a lot of weddings and for 90% of the shots I use on camera flash. They may not be the best lit wedding pictures of all time. But I can reliably get good lighting EVERY time.

I don’t have a favoured set up, I find ceiling bounce looks great one week and looks awful the next. But as you’ve explained, there are several combinations to try and I always get one that works well.

Even direct flash works fine for fill flash, outdoors on a dull day.

Broad side and Short side, were taught to me as Fat and Thin. As fat people tend to look thinner when lit with Thin ( Short) lighting.

Welcome to YANAP, the forum interface is a bit clunky and takes some getting used to.

Your people pictures look about right for a beginner, but you’re a professional!

Just a few colour issues with portraits, the pregnant woman in the red dress has skin so yellow you can’t see that is wearing a top.

The wedding pics have a lot more problems. Colour is very inconsistent. One bride has a yellow dress in one pic and a magenta one in the next. There’s bad flash shadows, messy backgrounds, over flashed images, images that need more flash, images that aren’t needed  ( often repeated) there’s even a white vignette!

I wouldn’t have guessed the two galleries are by the same person.

Wow TRAINWRECK that was a long an in-depth  answer. I’m not sure I know them all but I’ll assume you are American and we Britts have a different name for the ones I’m unsure off.

I hope VampireKetsuki appreciates the trouble you went to. ( I tend to keep my answers short, as I’m a crap typist!)

I do think that you forgot that on top of all the technical stuff, you do need at least  a modicum of artistry. That little something that can’t be taught.

Being able to look at a scene and see the picture. Thinking “That’s awful, but if I just move that a bit and get a bit lower, it will look great”.

We often see pics here, where you can see that they have the idea, but not the camera mastery to capture it.

Not sure what to call it, but I’m pretty sure that VampireKetsuki doesn’t have it.

Professional, by definition, means you’ve been paid for your work. I’ve been paid to take photographs for two weddings so far. A third myself and another took photos for the bride as a wedding present. Of course I’ll use my class assignments until I become more established.

If you call yourself a professional, people will expect to see professional quality images. You are not doing yourself any favours, or impressing anyone (except yourself) by using the term professional. I am a professional photographer, but the only place I seem to use that word is on here. None of my websites ever refer to me as a professional. If you can’t tell by looking at the pictures, saying it won’t help.

Welcome to the real world! It’s not like photo class is it!

    Why the attitude here?

Because the list of excuses you give for taking bad images, are just everyday problems that any real photographer has learnt to over come. You don’t seem to have learnt ANYTHING about photography.

The site is fine, only problems being the pic on the about us page took forever to load, and having the cursor turn into a giant forward icon (in the galleries) seemed a bit weird. Apart from that, the only problem is the picture mentioned above. I think it’s you weakest image and probably shouldn’t be on the site, let alone starring as the first pic you see. There’s something not right with the way the baby is looking at you, and it’s starting to creep me out!
