The guy who started this page posted an ad on his personal FB with his price points. It makes me want to squeeze the top of my nasal bridge as this is giving me a headache. Is it me or do other people get the impression that he shoots in Auto? When I posted a status last month asking for opinions on the Canon 5D 3, he chimed in about how his D40x has served him well and he’s planning to upgrade to a D3200. I never thought I’d be the kind of jerk who puts someone on blast but something about this knob irks me.

I only looked at https://www.facebook.com/shutterphotography2014. I like https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=319087844915605&set=pb.318843148273408.-2207520000.1402396460.&type=3&theater, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=319087824915607&set=pb.318843148273408.-2207520000.1402396460.&type=3&theater, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=319087758248947&set=pb.318843148273408.-2207520000.1402396460.&type=3&theater, and some of the others.
Some are flash photos, some are not. If he shot the no flash photos with a D40x in auto mode, he is right, it is serving him very well.
June 10, 2014 at 7:43 am #19128VeeParticipantIf my memory serves me well, I don’t think he even shot those photos. The other day he thanked someone else for being his second shooter for the concert because he was busy taking shots from the balcony.
June 10, 2014 at 11:38 am #19131joehomeownerParticipantWell, that music photography is terrible.
And upgrading from a D40x to a D3200? Isn’t that just a lateral step in a more modern direction? He could at least move up to the D5000 series, jeez.

Already had a rant about these guys, their photos are boring colours and blurry, yet they are paid to photograph horse shows and even weddings! The mind boggles! Also their website is very misleading as the four pictures on the homepage are pretty good, so it made me think that either it was a whole different company with the same name, or they just put crappy ones on facebook. But after entering the gallery it was immediately clear it was the same old rubbish. Eurgh. http://www.fotofabulous-equestrian-photography.co.uk/

Now this one, nice enough person, and she’s going about it the same why I am, self-teaching (I’ve never done photography as a subject, in fact I’m doing a Marine Biology degree for some reason!), but her photos range from ‘not that good’ to ‘alright I guess’, yet she gets loads of business granted it’s mostly friends and friends of friends but still. Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong- I need more blind/gullible friends!

These guys took the photos at my aunt’s wedding. They suck. Plain and simple. She did ask me to do it, but as I don’t consider myself to be ‘professional’ (but not a fauxtog either) I declined as I’m too terrified of ruining people’s big day. :L
June 10, 2014 at 1:08 pm #19133VeeParticipantjoehomeowner, the stuff he posted on his business page is hardly the worst of it. His personal page has quite a few interesting concert albums. I’ll respect his privacy on those albums being that they’re on his personal account. Anyone can fall ass-backwards into a good photo, on occasion. What I hear on this website, time and again, is how anyone with $500 in their pocket can buy an entry-level DSLR and start charging money as a pro-photog without taking any care to learn the craft. This guy posted a price plan on his FB the other day:
“If anyone is holding a concert, event or wedding, please be sure to contact Shutter Photography or myself to book you an amazing and professional photographer at a very good price.
Concerts…. $75 plus processing fee
Events… $150 plus processing fee
Weddings… $550 plus processing feeDependent on the location of the shoot, a fee to cover transportation costs may be required.”
I’ve seen people take fantastic photos with inexpensive or minimal equipment. I’m trying not to come across as snobby about this because I’m really not. On the contrary, it bothered me, the arrogance with which he responded when I posted my status asking for advice regarding the purchase of a 5D3. After telling me his D40x served him well, he said, “Then again, we have different styles of photography.” Made me wonder what he was trying to imply about my photos…

June 10, 2014 at 3:42 pm #19136sethParticipantHR’s page/profile is not professional, either. She has a public status from this business profile going on about people parking in her lawn because her neighbor has a yard sale every week, and the language in her comments. I’d never hire someone who acted like that publicly. Not matter if they’re good or not.
June 10, 2014 at 4:51 pm #19137anonymoususerParticipantshe has a fowl mouth in the groups advertising her work as well. I have noticed that even in a professional light I have found curse words in her posts

check out the cover photo… poor baby
June 11, 2014 at 1:41 am #19143fstopper89ParticipantOk, almost all of these fauxtogs seem to just be really unprofessional in general. Posting things like “lol just working on some pics to pass my time away” on their “business” page, posting constant junk/fillers on their page, acting like giddy high school girls in every post…. I see a pattern. My business page is pretty much strictly business or photography-related, and I make sure to use all my punctuation and correct grammar when making posts. And the phrase “photo shoots” doesn’t sound professional. “Photography sessions” or “portrait sessions” would sound much better. The fauxtogs are always updating us on the “photo shoot” they have this afternoon. I don’t really care if you have a photo shoot this afternoon. That’s like saying “I’m sitting at my desk, working on the computer,” when updating my friends about my exciting time at work. Sorry, end rant.
Here’s some food for the dogs. https://www.facebook.com/20dollarmemories/photos/a.284544708381535.1073741834.281673845335288/284544901714849/?type=3&theater

June 11, 2014 at 10:45 pm #19160illekkenobiParticipantUgh. that 20 Dollar memories post led me back to this awful fauxtog.
At first glance I thought she was plucking her eyebrows.
