    and what’s all this about?

Strict Standards: strtotime(): It is not safe to rely on the system’s timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. The eye kind of creeps me out and the girl  feeding ducks looks like a beautifully processed snap shot but the rest are great. Really love the shot of the hoody. Not sure why! It’s simple but I keep looking at it. Great B/W, I wish I could get all my tones like these.

“nothing we haven’t seen” seems to be the go to comment. mind elaborating and giving me legitimate advice?

okay.. you asked for it. Take a look at the stock exchange. http://www.sxc.hu

Type in leaf and you’ll see hundreds of shots just like yours and lot that are better. But if you are actually looking for a picture to use, you’ll notice that at the bottom of each page is a set of amazing pics which seem to be exactly what you want and in terms of quality stand head and shoulders above everything else on the page. The thing is that istock own stock exchange and use the bottom of each page to advertise their paid for images. They know that they will sell great images by putting them next to boring ones.

If you want to make a career of shooting grass and leaves you’re going to need GREAT images.

Get used to it!  I’ve shot nearly 1000 weddings and I know that there are images on my website of couples who have split and one who I think has died! No one has ever approached me to take them down but  I would if they asked. Years ago we used to not charge until they picked up their album and we knew they were happy.  But we got so fed up of couples splitting up before they had chosen their pictures that we now charge in full up front. One couple actually split up on honeymoon!

cass335 has pretty much covered it. I really like some of your shots, but they are mixed in with some fairly average ones. The snake shot is not a keeper. The colour temp is all wrong and makes it look like its been shot through a tank, the composition isn’t great and the rock is too dominant. But the biggest problem is that despite it being a rattler, it’s just a tail!

    Jeeze you suck!

    NOT.

Nice shots,  some that look a little dark in the faces but that might have been what you wanted.  I like your style………

If you had put this in the ” Am I a Fauxtog” section, I would have to answer YES. The first pic of the slide show was completely out of focus and shouldn’t be on anyones display page. I only stuck around for a few more pics which included a groom with a messing pile of logs in the background and some food. If I was looking for a photographer to shoot my wedding I would have moved onto the next site after a couple of seconds. Just keep praticing and maybe buy some books or do a course.

I’m afraid that leaves and peacock feathers never pay to have their picture taken, so it might be a short career.  Your pics are okay but nothing we haven’t seen before. I kind of like the dead butterfly and leaves shot, but nothing else caught my eye.  How are you thinking of making this a career?

It seems that you have the same problem as most of the people that post here. Your pics are mostly sharp and well exposed ( possibly because your camera does it all for you ) But you need to point it at some more interesting subjects. The Tumblr page has a couple of okay portraits, but it also has shots of  path, some trees, the ocean, which anyone stood there could have taken. They mean nothing to us and they have nothing that makes us want to look at them. The face book page is much more interesting, but it could well be that it’s just the filters making it look better. As tealgreen said they all look a bit instagram and the will probably look very dated in a few years, if not weeks. Find some people with interesting faces and do more portraits.

PS thank god for computers, as I managed to type ” Find some people with interesting faeces” before spell check!

I don’t love you so here’s an honest opinion!  The shot of the kid on the bed with the dummy  ( pacifier if you’re  from over there! ) is great. Love the framing, the light and the kids expression. Only problem with it is the DUMMY. The other shots are okay, but none of them have any WOW factor. A good start, keep shooting. With a little practice you’ll soon have some great images.

I love the way that you ( and me ) can read something on the net and get completely the wrong end of the stick.

Having read your newer posts it now sounds like you were well prepared for the light and tried your best to get them to move to a better location. In which case, YES you probably did the right thing in turning down their wedding.

Handling people comes with experience and learning when to turn down a job usually comes from bad experience.

Unless you are a world famous photographer you won’t have the luxury of choosing where and when you shoot a wedding. It’s always going to be so bright that everyone is squinting and has a shiny face. Or you’ll be in a candle lit church in the middle of winter.

Until you can handle every situation you probably shouldn’t be shooting weddings.

I’m pretty sure that your “pricing scale” can’t make you a fauxtog. I know many pros who will do a job for free if it’s something that they’ve always wanted to try of it will help them in the future.

Your first pic has wide angle distortion and the girl has something weird going on with her feet.  But to be honest it doesn’t really matter as it’s just a pic of a girl not looking at the camera. It means nothing to any one looking at it and has nothing to hold your interest.

Similarly the bridge shot is……. just a picture of a bridge.

THe third pic is a little more interesting, but the softness and the yellow skin tone far out weigh any merit that it has.

Doesn’t matter what make of camera you have, what you point it at will make a difference.
