Okay here’s question number 2… Why do American TV shows blur so much out?  You watch a show like American Hotrod where they spend weeks building a completely unique car that stands out in any car park like a sore thumb. And a soon as it’s finished it gets the registration plate blurred! As if anyone might see it on the street and think ” I recognize that number”.  And then any sort of logo gets covered in gaffa tape. I’ve seen Porsche 911’s with tape over the steering wheel so you can’t tell what make it is. Well bad news guys…. it’s kind of obvious!

I’d much rather do something I love and earn less than the job I do now

That’s handy as theres no money in photography.

    there’s always something to learn.

I started using Photoshop when it was version 2. I use it  for at least 6 hours, pretty much every day. I would consider my self damn good at it. Yesterday I learnt two new PS tricks

I love the way everything is a trade off with something else.

    Realizing that (with a Z : ) Is a very good start!

What I like about photography? Well these days I like the fact that I can sit in a nice warm office, listen to music, drink coffee and make great images on a huge screen that print out looking exactly like I wanted. I had 20 years working in freezing cold or boiling hot darkroom that stank of chemicals had noisy machinery and never produced prints that were exactly the colour I wanted.

Here we say “pop”  when we are refering to soda.

We say fizzy drink! Soda would be soda water, the stuff that squirts out of soda syphons in slapstick movies.

Suck and blow are opposites, yet when used derogatorily, they are synonyms. “That sucks!” or “That blows!”

I’m guessing that you know what I’m thinking here…..

at least we somewhat understand each other in these forums and all love the universal language that is called Photography, right?

    Pass the bucket!

Why did she have french fries while having an orgasm in the first place?

Your Southern charm is showing again!

he told us that they do not put syrup on waffles, instead they like ketchup.  To me that just sounds gross.

Waffles as you know them don’t really exist here. Our waffles are potatoe based. ( that’s POE -TATE-TOE )

My Favourite Bridgwater joke ( Don’t read if easily offended or your girlfriend comes from Bridgwater )

    Q. How do you know when a Bridgwater girl has an orgasm?

    A. She drops her chips!

Don’t worry the yanks will think we mean crisps.

A little while back Brown eyed girl mentioned that most fauxtogs can’t string together a post using proper English. I nearly commented then, that there’s a U in colour if you use PROPER  English : )

Which reminds me that I have a lot of questions that you Yanks might be able to answer. I think this thread has been highjacked enough so I’ll start a new one in the main discussion area.

I honestly wouldn’t mind becoming a product photographer.

It’s not something you can just become overnight. Every company now has a website that needs pics and every company has employees with cameras who think they are photographers. These days the only commercial work  we get is either so boring that no one would want to do it, or the product is impossible to photograph!

As for the car, yes that’s better. as Findley says it’s needs a better crop. And my idea of shooting lower down would improve it more.

However, I’m UK based and a car nut, so it may be just that I’ve never seen that car before, if there were a dozen parked on my street I would say it was dull.

haven’t seen the new Star Trek movie but I loved the cock eyed angles and chopped close ups of the previous one. It made it just like the original series!

The worst thing I have ever seen done to a great movie was  some twenty years ago when the BBC showed 2001 a space odyssey. Some clever dick decided to include some wide screen shots of the spacecraft because the pan and scan version couldn’t get it all in. So the movie jumped in and out of wide screen. To hide this they painted fake stars onto the black bars top and bottom. Which kind of worked until the space ships came close enough to fill the screen and they  got cut off and replaced by the stars!

Your pics are okay, mostly sharp and the exposures aren’t anything to worry about (especially if you were shooting RAW) I like the B/W conversion on the car shot . You just need to find some more interesting angles. For instance, the front of a car is usually much more interesting than the back, and shooting lower down will make it look much more imposing. Changing angle like that could could be the difference between a good shot and a snap shot.

How faux are you?… Well if you were charging then you’d be about 60%, as you don’t charge you are not a faux

There’s one shot there that screams AMATEUR  but the rest are great.

The mask shots are the weakest, as the masks, well, mask any interaction between the subject and the viewer. ( that made sense in my head! ) Apart from those the only problem is with the cropping of the two landscape portraits. Keep it up…….

But loose the shot of  your camera!!!!! Only you think it’s important what kit you have.
