Yea not sure you should be charging. Half the images are out of focus, I can see where you darkened the background in a few because you didn’t go all the way to the skin/clothes. You have posing issues with some of the babies. You have to get back to the basics for a bit.
IntuitionParticipant/facepalm

about how important it was to pay a professional, next to a post for 10 dollar sessions.
IntuitionParticipantAlexandria, for my own sanity I REFUSE to believe those aren’t intentionally bad. I refuse.
IntuitionParticipantI wouldn’t pay that. I could be famous/millionaire and I don’t think I’d pay that price. And Also I feel the pain of pricing. There’s this… clique? of about 4 photographers that share a studio space here, that charge appropriately and deserve to have their prices what they are, but they sort of dominate the market I want to be in. If I go lower I’m competing in the wrong market, plus not making money at all. So I’m trying to sneak in slowly, but it’s taking a bit.
IntuitionParticipantSo because you think that because they don’t know what ‘good photography’ is, you should give them subpar work? And honestly? if you priced correctly and put out brilliant work you wouldn’t get the customers that want 20 dollar photographers. Because as much as you think they don’t know what quality is, they do. Most are caught up in mommy goggles and the assumption that they can’t afford better.
IntuitionParticipantI have a question, maybe you all could help. What do you do when lighting is spotty and harsh, but you don’t have a great option to modify it. Say a wedding. I was at one this past week where the wedding was at 4 in Arizona, no clouds, but the area where the ceremony had some shade. What ended up happening is the bride was in shade, the groom bright sunlight and the officiant was half and half. Trying to work that through in my head was horrible haha.
IntuitionParticipantThe disk is supposedly ALL images shot, and as I understand it, untouched. You don’t get digital copies of his edited stuff. That you have to pay for, ala carte, or in his packages. To be fair you only get that with his ‘black label’ wedding package, which I believe (i’m trying to remember) was over 5 thousand dollars. On top of if they sell anything else on top of it.
The crooked images are on his blog, the first post, at least it was. They are too subtle for me to believe it was intentional, and it’s all architectural based, like bride and groom in from of a pretty buildings doors and stairs listing to the left.
He has much the same idea as Cantrell. He prefers not to print the smaller sizes at all. He charges 50 dollars for each 8×10, 5×7, or 4×6 to try and avoid it. Cause I don’t know many that would pay 50 dollars for a 4×6.
It’s an interesting business plan, and I see why it works, it’s just crazy and I find him so so. Better then me, but for that money, so so. He showed one images where he cut in a sky, or something, and it had some of the worst halos around the buildings. And that was done by his outsourced editors.
IntuitionParticipantThe crooked images was what got me. He also presents his clients with 300 ( give or take) images to go through. He also (in certain packages) gives a disk of unedited images that they can print at walmart if they want ( his words). Now that be said, he’s stupid successful, but i find it fascinating that many of his practices are what we /facepalm at fauxtographers for doing, he just figured out how to do it successfully. He also outsources most of his post processing. What he does do right is sells really high end prints and albums, so that’s why he says he could care less about the disk, since he’s making it up with the extra prints. and or the 30,000 dollar wedding he kept talking about. (I’m watching a thing from creative live lol, wanted to see what it’s all about)
IntuitionParticipantI have the impact set, and I wasn’t impressed. My one stopped working above half power, which doesn’t make it useless, but is really annoying. I’ve since upgraded to Alien bees, which I really like, but I’ve kept the impacts since they are ‘ok’ lights for me.
IntuitionParticipantI do this for fun, lol see how crazy I can edit something. It especially works when I’m in a brain fog andΒ need some outlet. π I’ll haev to see what I can find
IntuitionParticipantYou know you had a weird adolescents when you mention they make your mouth numb and I instantly went to “like cocaine?” -_-
IntuitionParticipantI know what your worried about Ebi, or at least I think I do. I say you should shoot something just for us, that you’ll only share with YANAP, that way we can’t find you and stalk you π
IntuitionParticipantI’m starting to wonder if this chick is undiagnosed dyslexic. I have a family member that can’t type/spell/use grammar, so I’ve always been really good at reorganizing and deciphering, but some of her word placement always feels off or out of order.
Anyway still munching my popcorn. Honestly if she has 8 million profiles and is doing all this random shit, she has an extreme desperate need for attention. If you all gave up ( cause seriously she see’s no problem in any of this) she’ll slink back to obscurity and stop being happy internets people are talking about her.
IntuitionParticipantThis shit is better then daytime soaps. Now we just need a long lost evil twin to show up /eats popcorn
IntuitionParticipantThat would be amazing if you could! You can send it to [email protected] ( and don’t judge the email, I made it when I was like 14 π ) I wish I had an assistant. Especially for that shoot, when I knew it was a harsher time of day even with big clouds. I used to have a friend when I was in Alaska, who was a make up artist and a damn good model ( not that she modeled, but she knew how to model instinctively) we did many awesome shoots together because we were awesome sounding boards, with her as the subject and as an assistant. ( that’s her in my avatar thing). She lives in texas now π I just need to find someone like that again I think.
I did much better with my nerves ( also switched lenses >.<) tonight on a shoot I did for a local magazine ( sort of got tossed it cause they needed someone to take them) and I’m actually really happy technically with the pictures. Creatively I still need work, but I think I need to focus on focusing my mind on the technical side and getting that to be second nature. It’s also making editing them a breeze. so yea there’s that haha. she liked the ones I sent to check my headroom and what not, so yay.
I’ve been going over in my head today why I think i have this need to rush because I feel it’s expected. I came to the realization, I haven’t had my portrait taken outside of a box studio since I was probably 8, and that was by my dad. I think I need to find a good photographer here in the area and just go through the process. While they are obviously going to be faster at it then me, at least I can see what it’s like from the other side. That doesn’t sound too spy-ey does it? lol
