    Gah hit submit!

im not a fan of matching clothing, I like them to match without being really matchy if that makes sense.

Photo 3 and 4…. Baby is out of focus, you need to focus on subject closest to you and let focus fall back. Same issues as above with skin tones and kids looking in all different places. Kick mum and dad out next time or get them to stand directly behind you.

I only choose a select few to turn black and white and I generally know when I’m shooting if it will be colour or not.

Cake smash photos are cute, focus looks good, colours look good. I’d like more space around her. Β It would be really nice if she looked at camera, you need to work on getting littl

Hi there, good on you for popping up some photos for CC, I have learnt so much from CC and hopefully so will you!

ill start with the red ones, red is a super tricky colour to get right. You know that the red shots aren’t great, it will be interesting to see if my CC matches what you think.

red shot 1… Baby looks happy so good job, composition is nothing flash, the horizon looks straight. The background has foot some weird things happening to it. The red has cast red all over hI’m, so his skin tones look off. Focus doesn’t look too baD. He has catch lights which are important and they don’t seem to be from a pop up flash. Light seems a biDodd, coming from up above him to the left. Shadow under his nose is nice. Love his roley arms.

Red shot 2…. Black and white conversion is a bit blah and boring, black and white for the hell of it Im just not a fan.

red shot 3… Previous shot in colour. Everyone is looking every where and its very distracting, posing isn’t terrible but nothing flash. It’s like men vs women. Focus doesn’t look too bad, maybe soft on standing boy. The major issue s the red casting, their skin tones are all over the joint. I like that their accessories are a litt

may I ask what equipment you use?

i use a canon 50D I was using a ‘nift fifty’ 50mm 1.8 cheap but effective, although I found shooting wide soft and focal point to the side soft which is so be expected. I just got given a sigma 1.4 30mm which I’m now in love with πŸ™‚ I also have a wide angle zoom kit lens which is utter crap. ill prefer prime lenses in general though.

you don’t need to buy more equipment just learn how to use it.

i Second what all the others have said, but thought you might like some critique on each individual image. I am not a pro i am an amateur who doesnt charge currently.

lovely moment, dont love the angle and the composition. i dislike the pavement visible in the back ground, lighting is nice but i don’t like the sepia or chocolate conversion. focus looks ok.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=353257108108330&set=a.353202804780427.1073741828.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Look like a lovely setting but the back ground is blown out and is a bit distracting, i dislike the pose, unsure why he is on his knees feels odd. nice expression but image looks soft may just be facebook. the weed near his knee i would clone out. whole image looks a little underexposed and cold while the back ground is over exposed in areas.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=353253704775337&set=a.353202804780427.1073741828.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Better pose but same issues as above. location looks spectacular but it doesnt shine really in the photo.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=350126451754729&set=a.349903108443730.1073741825.194647207302655&type=3&theater

composition is a little boring, looks a little too staged. pose isnt horrid, i think its more the composition smack bang in the middle letting this shot down.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=331323946968313&set=a.196205227146853.31419.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Idea is good but execution isnt terrific. colours are really really odd. My eye looks straight at the blown out bit of the mirror not the cute bubba.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=348149355285772&set=a.196205227146853.31419.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Image looks soft, odd angle, colours look a little off as well. Some shots look great with the subject not looking at camera… this isnt really one of them. For me I would bin this.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=348149388619102&set=a.196205227146853.31419.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Cute kid, great expression. props dont really fit with the back ground though. the lines are a little distracting, i automatically look behind her not at her. looks to be in focus.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=348149448619096&set=a.196205227146853.31419.194647207302655&type=3&theater

Angle makes me want to reach through and stop her falling offΒ  the boardwalk, very cute kid, very cute expression, love that her outfit matches the setting. boardwalk rails look like they are coming out of her head. Again i will mention i really dislike the angle, dutch angle is very rarely done well.

I see no selective colour which is a good thing. you look like you build a report with the people you shoot and consequently capture some good moments. you need to look at composition, lighting and back grounds. Dump any image which is not well focused on the eyes. You need to look at post work, and getting the colours spot on. there are heaps of info on line… actions should only be used when you understand what they do. Check out Ask Damien and take his classes, they will rock your world. https://www.facebook.com/groups/195567190503489/

hope this is the kind of info you were after.

thankyou so much soaringturkeys, your CC means a lot to me.

i do love that pink fur, i managed to find it for free on a free site πŸ™‚ to this date its one of my favorite pics. Because i am not charging i am not buying props and blankets ect. i don’t have many nice blankets for boys, this one was one of his mum’s.

This is what i was thinking of doing to the blanket in my final portfolio edit.

here is another of the pink fur. It is an image people either love or hate, her parents weren’t a huge fan! Both these images have only had a wuick FB edit so arent quite finished.

here is another with different fur.

I am hoping that any props i use will complement baby and not over power baby, thats my style, warm and clean and not porcelain doll.

here are 2 black and whites, i am not yet confident with my black and white conversions.

you truly sound jealous, why are you jealous of him? is he taking your customers?

He’s in high school maybe you should give him a break, or better that maybe some guidance about areas he should read up on instead of trying to call him out on a public forum.

See I think the reason the Dutch angle worked more in that shot was because you can’t see the horizon as much, I still want to reach into the screen and stop them falling. I get that falling feeling even more because they are standing in the door, I want to yell out ‘hold on’ LOL! It’s a nice image none the less.

nope haven’t sold me on the Dutch angle photos, I’ve done one by accident (quick snap of my daughter) it’s the only one I’ve ever taken which I like. Happy to post link if you want to see it but its certainly no masterpiece!

I disagree, that swan pic is horrible. Could have been cool if composed differently and converted to black and white. Seriously to say its not horrible is odd, when you mean it’s not horrible do you mean because its focused and exposed not too bad? Do tell browneyedgirl πŸ™‚

Have you thought about a 2nd hand 50d, I quite like mine although its starting to also have some focus issues (body and lens need a service I think) .

anyway 2nd hand 50d are reasonably priced, unsure if the lenses which fit 40d also fit 50d. I’ve been looking at 2nd hand ones to have back up body, some decent ones out there.

Hi Jamie thankyou for your compliment, i am aiming for nice and tasteful so i’m very happy you thought that.

OctoberMoon, those pics were literally taken and edited last night (with 3 very uncooperative children LOL!). I shoot RAW so i have room to move with WB and exposure, i always feel that i tend to over expose in camera but then when i get into post i have to bump the exposure up even more, i worry about blowing areas but maybe i need to lighten more, Ive just started using layers and masks to selectively edit different parts of my pics and i feel this has helped. According to histograms generally my WB is relatively spot on (i prefer warm) and i am on a calibrated monitor.

I just finished a shoot with a baby and will put the pics up when ive finished editing some this afternoon. will post the link if anyone is keen to CC them i would love the feed back. I get my work CCed as much as possible but im finding it harder and harder to find people to CC, does anyone know any other forums?
