Wow she loves the clarity slider in LR…She is out of focus a lot too… She’s so close to being good but then over-edits the photos (and tries to save bad photos by over-editing them)
But the question was about portraits. It’s not a very hard ‘look’ to get, just slide your clarity slider all the way right in LR and voila! You can now have her ‘look’I would say that no, that isn’t the future of headshots – just a photographer that isn’t that good at editing their photos.
nairbynairbParticipantgreat! Now go shoot something/someone else…
Haha, that’s the plan, sir!

Do you want to learn to get better technically and make images worth selling? Or do you want to just take photos of your life with personal artistic touches? If it’s the latter, then there isn’t much point in asking for a critique because what we think won’t matter 😛If you’re in it to make money, take down the award photos and any photo with your friends/kids?. Also, take out all of the ones in the aquarium/zoo.
Focus on putting up 20 or so images that you find best describes the kind of work you do.
This photo would have been amazing with a bit better composition!

Yeah the background was just a random HDR to complete the effect of the portrait. I’ll work on the full version again soon!
(you can pull it down now :P)
nairbynairbParticipantnairbynairbParticipantHey!
I like a lot of your stuff… but some is much better than others. And some just need some tweeking so they don’t look like they’re just snapshots…
Like this one:

You can easily make this a better photo by adding more colour, and by taking out the post (this was like 6-9 mins worth… could be a lot better with more time spent)

I love this one though, the colours are great!

It was hard to position my reflector in a way that would give me a good edge light with the space I was working in (I live in a basement apartment with really low ceilings).
This was with 1 speedlight with a shoot-through umbrella and the reflector in the back.
The rest I did in photoshopEdit* And yes, I did like that link! That’s the kind of photography I want to do…
nairbynairbParticipantnairbynairbParticipantWow, that’s amazing!
Soooooo good lol
nairbynairbParticipantThe background isn’t black but rather slightly purple, is that what you meant to do?
Yep lol
nairbynairbParticipantI never remember to worry about how I actually look, I’m too into the technical side of it.
I will try again soon with a reflector
nairbynairbParticipantAny suggestions on a DIY way to hold a small 5 in 1 reflector up?
nairbynairbParticipantnairbynairbParticipant“One frequently asked question I get from most photographers is my use of natural light. I do not use any reflectors, diffusers, fill flash or any other type of flash or off camera lighting for my outdoor work. I am strictly natural light and utilize the available light to my advantage and to create the exposure I am after.”
She says she doesn’t use it for her outdoor work…
She has the speedlights and diffusers, just doesn’t use them outdoors…nairbynairbParticipantLol yeah, there are random ones that are just awful.
Also, “JFC” reminds me of “Jesus Fucking Christ”
