    I did a new thing!

Grabbed a random baseball field off the internet and plopped myself in there.

Let me know what you think/what I could have done better.

This was shot with 2 speedlites at each side of me and since I don’t have a 3rd speedlite I couldn’t use one to fill in my face.

There’s some detail in that shot still even if he doesn’t have the RAW

The highlights are too blown out but there’s still some detail.

I say do it… You aren’t going to become a worse photographer for it.
Just make sure that the fauxtog doesn’t rub off bad habits on you.

I don’t think anyone should be paying either of you for shots at the points you’re at though.

My Instagram isn’t for my photography, but rather for pictures of my ridiculously crazy/adorable daughter.

In my opinion, Instagram should only be used for photos taken with the device that you use instagram on (phones, tablets…)

Of course you get likes from posting great DSLR-quality photos on there in a sea of crappy cell-phone quality photos.

It is ridiculously bad… But the clients see her quality before they hire her…
That, or her portfolio is just all of her friends.

I was trying to make it look like it wasn’t me also… haha. Beer may have been involved.

And yeah, I had it on a tripod balancing on my couches and a table. Used the 2-Second timer and posed as quickly as I could.
My camera’s battery was dying so I didn’t care what expression I had as long as the lighting looked decent. This was just lit with my ikea basement apartment ceiling lighting lol. I turned them all to face me 🙂

Ya I agree. I need to stop doing these kind of things without an extra person around to give me a hand.

I don’t like making excuses but it wasn’t that easy to do on my own lol.

Next time I do a composite it will be even more believable

    Here’s a quick photo I did today.

    Life as a short person

All my life I’ve always been the shortest in a group.

I would say that you still have a lot to learn. I really hope that people didn’t pay you for those newborn shoots.

    flicker (3 of 5)

Why is this photo here? It’s not a good pose for her, not a flattering look. The processing is ‘okay’. She really would have benefited from a fill light from a speedlite or a reflector.  And the weird angle and composition is weird 😛

    flicker (2 of 5)

This one is better-ish. You don’t have exif data so I’m going to assume this was with your 50mm? This would have been a decent shot if he wasn’t squinting or if you hadn’t focused on his ears.

    flicker (1 of 5)

You can’t save an out of focus shot. This one wasn’t even close to begin with.

    ryker bath (13 of 14)

Yes it has cool looking tones, but it’s uninteresting. Had the child been looking up at the camera it would have been a great image, but nope.

    ryker bath (3 of 14)

    Out of focus…

    easter 2014 (7 of 7)

More in focus, but lacks that “something”.

I like all of the ones with Kinley, though not the greatest they do show potential. The ones I didn’t mention weren’t worth talking about 😛

Take that as you will, that’s just what I see.

Not all of your pages are centered the same – irritated me while browsing your site.

Too many navigation links across the top. Simple is good.

Your gallery link should lead to a gallery, not text.

I see a lot of focus issues. Even some camera shake can be seen. Could be you’re using a lens without IS/VR or not using a fast enough shutter speed.

You definitely need to invest in a 5 in 1 reflector or a speed lite and a remote trigger. Catch lights in your subject’s eyes will add a whole new dimension for your photos.
I don’t think any 2 images of yours have the same feel. Some are edited A LOT more than others.

Just work on focusing, work on consistency, get a reflector and learn how to use it and then you’ll be on your way.

Why do you feel like you have to tell her in the first place?
It doesn’t sound like you’re close enough with her to tell her straight up, so why are you interfering in her life?

Don’t get me wrong, I hate the fact that there is another fauxtog in the making. But why not let her learn for herself? Let her get low-paying clients, and let her deliver unsatisfactory photos. She won’t last long unless she gets good. And if she does happen to get good, who are you to have wanted to stand in the way?

You should pick 10 images you think are your strongest and put them into a set on Flickr so we can critique those specific images.

I looked through all of the photos on your site and not many of them had anything that I hadn’t already seen before.
The only photo that really stood out to me was this one:
    http://www.picturedrox.com/Macro/i-MchSvSL/A

Why is Black and White a separate category?

The ones in the “Painted” category; Did you actually paint those? Or did you apply some photoshop filters to macro shots you took?

Choose some specific images so we can give a more in-depth critique!

Haha the portraits I do are just for fun when I’m experimenting really.
The 24-70mm is ideal for everything else I do 🙂

Here are two more shots from the same night:

Haha yeah, she has naturally big pupils it seems… ALL photos of her look like that (not even ones taken by me that night)

And the hands bug me a bit too. Unfortunately I only own the Nifty Fifty for my 5d mk ii. Looking to purchase the 24-70 soon…

Do you like the processing? Its a new style I’m trying out
