    Yes, I will work on my attidue

    In the mean time, why don’t you sign up for a third account to come in here and agree with yourself.

     third account?  I don’t even have two but guess since more than one person doesn’t agree with you they must be the same person?  once again your ego is showing thru.

    now I am really done with you, I have no need to pull myself down to your level or into the mud with you. I don’t need to try and build myself up because I’m happy with who I am.

    Jared, you simply aren’t worth my time.  The quailty of your work is not that of a fauxgrapher but your ego and attidue is.  I wish you the best of luck with your attempt at becoming a professional, I really do hope you have some success, I don’t wish anything but good will to you.

    I do hope you find whatever is lacking in your life that makes you have the need to feel superior to others, it just simply might be lack of maturity which hopefully resovle it’s self in time.

    I could have taken these shots

    “except I didn’t due to not knowing how”

    ummm I know how to work with natural light and use sun flare to my advantage, I also know how to set my exposure and set a custom white balance so my subject isn’t over powered by the sunflare and remains the main focal point of the image.  I also can use external flash and strobes to properly expose not only for the sky but my subject so I don’t end up with a blown skyline that takes away from the over all feel on an image.

    lmao – are your little feelings hurt because no one is telling you that you are the next photography god?  Go back to facebook and have your friends tell you that you are amazing.  I notice when anyone dares tell you that your not as great as you think you are you resort to name calling, how old are you?  13?

    Yes you are not a fauxgrapher and yes you are better than 1/2 the “photographers” marketing themselves currently but honestly you need to work on how your tone and how you deliver you messages.  I know as an artist you should be a little full of yourself but good god man, you also need to show a little humility.  The images on your webpage and flickr are nothing special, just like mine are nothing special.  You can find the same head shots done a million times all over flickr, same poses but you know what that’s ok with me cause I’m LEARNING about how to do things.  I’m not trying to sell myself as the next big thing, cause honeslty I’m not and most likely never will be.  I’m happy learning all I can about and getting some nice images of my family where Aunt Betty isn’t a blurry fat mess that no one will recoginze.

    I’m happy and proud with how far I have come, my children no longer have green skin tones, they are in focus, I have a grasp on the exposure triangle and how it works.  I’m proud of what I have done but I also know that I have thousands of miles to go and I’m open to people telling me what I need to work on.   I don’t lash out, call people out or use their faults to try and build myself up.

    You can see not only her bra strap but the strap for hanging the dress is showing big time on the other shoulder.  You need to pay attention to the little details.

    Second shot (middle) would never had made it off my camera, let a lone onto my business page (if I had one) she looks like she has to pee.  The third shot (last) is also another image that would have made it’s way in the trash bin, it doesn’t show the model off in a postitive light at all.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/73875730@N08/7764078410/

    You cropped her right at the knees, her facial expression is a little strange, another shot that should have been trashed.

    holy underexposed batman…. also in the second one nice crop right at the knee.

    oh yes the lay on the bench and look sexy shot:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/73875730@N08/6894990168/

    This would have been a wonderful image if not for the cropping.

    So yes, you are no further a head in your photography journey than I am.  I could have taken these shots, I would have nailed my focus as well.  Difference between my small sample of stuff and yours… mine are about if I move my light here, how does it change the look of the image, if I add a reflector here, what happens.  You are trying to build a portfolio, I’m trying to experiment and learn.  No one in my shots are dressed up, mine are about learning the techincal parts of photography, your’s are about building up your ego and self worth.

    Got to love it when someone is told they don’t rock the world like they think they do and they come back lashing out and acting like a child, lol.

    Dude you’re stuff isn’t anything i can’t see in any high school seniorphotographers portfolio, it’s actually like you have a checklist.

    Stand in field – check

    Sun flare – check

    Lay on bench – check

    I too am a listener and a learner, I’m here becausehonestly it upsets me when I see people pick up a camera and the next week they are a pro.  Friends are always telling me to start charging, that I am good enough…. Well I don’t want to be good enough, I want to kick arse before I hang a single and charge people.  $50 a disk for 50+ images isn’t my goal, if I’m going to do thiI, I will not be short changingmyself, until the time I can feel comfortable charging a session feel and prints are extra this will be a hobby.

    While I use a grey card to set a custom white balance and don’t run actions, you can tell by looking at the OP’s images she does not take the time to do so, so if she is going to let her camera set her white balance, run actions at full strength and try to market it as  a “vintage look” she needs to calibrate her monitor so she isn’t getting such terrible skin tones.   There is no nice way to put this, her “vintage look” is failing, her subjects look terrible.  If she is selling this, she owes it to her clients to at least attempt to make them look healthy.

    OK while I would not consider you a “fauxographer”, I honestly would put you in the same category as myself, while having a nice grasp on things you are still learning and still have a ton to learn, you are no where near as great as you seem to think you are.  Not only did I look at your flickr page but I looked at your webpage (which show the same collection).  You seem to have issues with cropping, you crop at bad location 85% of the time (toes, half a foot, knees etc), some of the poses reminded me of a child’s “I got to pee dance” = not good at all.  You like sun flare, you use it a lot, you seem to be using it as a crutch (since you think you have it mastered) or a gimmick either way, you need to break away from it and try something new and actually on a couple of you images you are underexposed by a stop or two.

    In short, you are doing well but are no were close to were your ego is, you need to get that in check.

    Since reading your replies, I went to calibrate my monitor and everything is in check. The “yellow” tint or “jaundice” mentioned earlier is a vintage inspired filter. Most of the people I shoot for ask for that “vintage” or “aged look” and so that’s what I used. These people were pleased with their photos but I see the “aged look” is sort of taboo here, lol. In fact, everyone I’ve shot for has never had a complaint and has always been more than satisfied with the final product. I know I’ve just thrown myself into the lion’s den for saying that. Of course I know I still have A LOT to learn. Again, I never claimed to be a professional. This is mostly fun for me. Like I said, I will apply what I have been told here to my future endeavors and I will never stop asking questions. Thanks again.

    Gina

    How are you calibrating your monitor?  Which calibration software are you using?

    I personally use spyder express (I don’t have clients so I purchased the lower end calibration device but will be upgrading shortly to the sypder Elite to get even more control.

    And be honest I can take it! But I really doubt you’ll find anything wrong with my work. I’m pretty damn good!

    nothing like a little self confidence.

    * Wrinkled backdrops (an old white sheet, really? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=417214594986794&set=a.417214441653476.88467.148985465143043&type=3&theater )

    * Spot colour (way to many to show and example)

    * Focus issues ( one example:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=395466670494920&set=a.395465077161746.84786.148985465143043&type=3&theater)

    * White Balance issues (once again way to many to show examples)

    * Use of Pop-Up Flash ( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=417214594986794&set=a.417214441653476.88467.148985465143043&type=3&theater)

    * Way to heavy hand use of vignette ( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=412258512149069&set=a.412257955482458.87593.148985465143043&type=3&theater)

    * Strange cropping

    * distracting backgrounds (trees growing out of peoples heads)

    * Raccoon eyes (once again WAY to many examples of this)

    * blown highlights ( I’m sure this bride didn’t mind there where no details left in her dress or the cake….  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=380981895276731&set=a.380980308610223.82632.148985465143043&type=3&theater )

    * besides being a blurry mess, please tell me you did NOT hang this baby in this with no safety precautions, you realize all those cute photos you see on REAL photographers websites there is at least one person who has their hands on the baby at all times and they are composites where the hands are photoshoped out, right?

    I can’t look anymore… please tell me you are NOT charging for this stuff and this was nothing more than a joke post.

    Thanks Brownie and AndyF.   I don’t really crop until I decided what size I’m going to print (I’m pretty sure I cropped the one of the girls together thou, so it’s not a 100% rule, lol) and because of print ratios I try to leave some room to make sure I’m good if I get a bug to print some strange size.

    I’ve worked on getting my focus down and not over editing.  B/W conversations give me a hard time, I try to dodge and burn to get the contrast I need/want, but since I don’t use actions (unless I’ve created them myself to speed up my editing) it’s a learning process to say the least.

    The focus on C1 is off, I love the picture but kicked myself in the arse because of it.  🙁  #3 is my least favorite of the bunch, lmao.

    your skin tones are all yellow, as mentioned before is your monitor calibrated?  If you are charging people for your work you owe it to them to calibrate.  You seem to run actions and presets at full strenght, your colours/tones and white balance are all over the place.  The harsh lighting and shadows on the pictures where you used flash are a dead give away you either are using your pop-up flash or have no idea how to use your external flash unit. You have more than a couple of images in your ablums that are OOF and even more that have strange posing and cropping.

    In short, if you are charging people and putting yourself out there as a photographer for hire with the calibre of work shown on your facebook page you are a fauxphotographer.
