agreed… i actually learned a LOT on my first “expensive” camera which was a canon powershot sx-something, i believe. i bought it when they had just come out, because i wanted to get deeper into photography but wanted to learn first. i spent two years doing what i could with it (yay for learning manual!), and reading a LOT, and finally bought a real camera. not saying i don’t have more to learn, but if you stop learning, you stop growing and getting better. i make it a point to try and learn something new daily, and i haven’t failed yet. even if it’s what NOT to do 😉
the people that are happy with this kind of photography are definitely not what i want in a client.

ParticipantThat second one… it looks like they’re sitting on top of that stuff you find in silica packets when it gets wet… I looked at the first one earlier on my phone and thought “oh that doesn’t look /bad/, just a weird choice for a photo!” … I had NO idea it was completely blurry!

ParticipantHummm… Now I wonder how long couples have been pouring sand. At the wedding I just photographed last week, the mothers poured the sand and the couple held the receptacle. Couples used to light a third candle by each holding their candle to the third wick. In an outdoor wedding/windy environment, sand makes sense, but it was the first time I had seen it done. The couple Matchless photographed were using sand, and the watermark says 2012.
The Matchless wedding photos were taken in difficult conditions and are not the worst wedding photos this site has displayed, although “matchless” and “awesome” are not words that spring to mind when I see them. I didn’t have time to get into their other photos.
I enjoyed the concert photos! They are a refreshing change from the usual concert photos where you clearly see the performers!
For …323_n, I think the words you are looking for are “washed out”, and “yech!”
As for …029_n, I wonder what Trey Ratcliff would say if he saw that.
May 7, 2013 at 12:54 pm #9524ParticipantI photographed a wedding last year that did the sand thing. I had never seen it before (and it was a friend of mine) so I asked why. Apparently it’s to signify the union of a blended family. Each one had a child from previous relationships, so the kids poured sand as well as their parents, and it represented them becoming a family. I like the idea for that… but I don’t understand the mothers doing it. I got married in 06 and we did a unity candle, like you talked about – that’s a long-time tradition.
On another note, this photo has been shared a LOT on Facebook (a relative shared it on mine) and while the concept is adorable, the execution is wretched. Spot color and awkward baby pose much?

ParticipantThe sand thing has been around for a while. Our friends got married in ’07 and that was the first time I saw it.
In lieu of a unity candle, we “tied the knot.” My wife and I are rock climbers, so our respective mothers each held a different color length of webbing. My wife tied the first knot, and I joined the two strands together.

ParticipantThis guy need’s a feature on the front page don’t get no worse then this. You will find trash in some of the first patch of photos in the background and some photos edited with cheesy filter programs and girls just doing the strangest poses all done with the lowest grade camera possible ENJOY.

I mean, the comments he makes about the girls (I think that on every single photo I looked at, he was the only comment) are not “She was wonderfully professional” but like “She’s sexy/I love that I was her first shoot/more to come/she’ll go far” and I don’t know, but it makes me uneasy.
The positions are so awkward and the photos are so poorly composed… That last one, the poor girl. She looks so uncomfortable and the expression on her face says it all.
Maybe it’s just me (call me a prude, I guess), but I have never once considered having those kinds of portraits taken. Boudoir photography can be absolutely beautiful and done with taste and class. Even then I think I would still be comfortable if they were just for my husband and not for facebook, you know? Why do girls settle for this kind of work? It makes me sad that there are probably skeevy guys out there fantasizing about them and I dunno… it makes me shudder.
There’s no theme to any of this guy’s photos from what I can tell. They are cheesy, girls-gone-wild kind of shots. Blech.
