Originally Amarillo, TX and now am in Midland, TX. We have also lived in NC and HI.
dstone81ParticipantI completely agree with you gfox. I know a pro who can take amazing shots with a simple point and shoot and a faux who has a 5D mkiii and takes really crappy photos.
dstone81ParticipantThanks you guys for the input. I know I still need a lot of work. I am still learning and I want to take classes to learn everything I can. I know I need a better camera also but in the mean time I will just stick with the camera that I have and learn everything I can with it using the manual controls and learning and perfecting the basics with what I have.
dstone81ParticipantThat is what I was thinking. Love how they said that they would make you look your best…I am thinking if that is the best they could do…Yikes!
dstone81ParticipantOk this is just aweful. Gotta love their ad.
dstone81ParticipantThis is the camera that I mainly shoot with http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_hs30exr/. (I had a S700 that I wore out that was a gift) I have learned the controls inside and out. I prefer shooting in the Manual mode, but still have a lot to learn. I think my talents lie in still life and nature shots. I suck at people photos (hense why I only do my own family). People have asked me a few times to do photoshoots for them but I always refuse because I know where my strengths and weaknesses are. I am still my own worst critic when it comes to my photos. It irks me to no end when people think that High end DSLR=awesome pictures automatically. Which isn’t true. It takes a lot of work and practice and learning. I hope to some day buy an DSLR but for now I am happy to perfect my art with what I do have And learning all of the basics in the mean time. (Like white balance, composition, exposure, and such.) I don’t want to go into business I just want to stay a hobbyist, but I do have hopes and dreams to further my photography.
dstone81ParticipantThanks everyone for the input. I found some inspiration at a local museum. It is the Pertrolium Museum here. It really inspired me as I was driving by. I want to go out to the outskirts of town and do some pics with the Oil rigs. I also found an old barn and Silo that inspired me. I will post the finished product here and see what ya’ll think. I plan to go this weekend.
dstone81ParticipantThanks. 🙂 That is why I love still life/ Nature Photography. I like it for it’s artistic merit and technichal merits. I will definately do that. Now I just have to find something to really inspire me in this town. (We just moved here from the crystal coast of NC and there was tons of inspiration there.)
dstone81ParticipantLet me reiterate what I was saying, process not only the ones that others request but process some of the others too for my own personal learning process. ( I have btw had a few select photographs processed for my own home, but they were just a few 5×7 prints to put up in our bathroom.)
dstone81ParticipantThanks for the input. 🙂 That is what I was thinking. I do mainly still life photography to hone my skills and because it relaxes me when I have had a rough day with my children. I get what you are saying though, only finish the ones that people request and my work isn’t going to be seen by others unless my work gets out there. I knew about the cost of finishing them already because I have taken a couple of my pics to a few Photo finishing studios to see what the actual cost would be. I want to eventually take some college courses to learn every aspect I can of photography while keeping my style aesthetic in mind. Someday once my kids have graduated high school and moved out of the house I hope to go on a Nat geo expedition and have some of my photos end up in one of their magazines. (I know that that is a long ways off and I know I have a lot more learning to do) But it is still a dream I have and a goal I want to someday attain.
