My lord, that foliofotos site is straight out of the 90s. It’s awful from top to bottom and the photos are dog rough. The model feedback is clearly written by the same person. I think the photos may be stolen too, the ‘skill’ range is very different from photo to photo.

You can’t really ask for honesty and then give a reply like that.

Like everyone else said you’re shots didn’t grab me. Some showed a reasonable command of a camera but there’s more to being a tog than that.  You need to be more inspired with your composition and subject choice. NOt having people to shoot isn’t a good enough excuse. There’s a whole world out there with many interesting things to capture, it doesn’t have to people. If you really want to do portraiture then it’s easy to find a wannabe model for nothing.

There are a million photographers out there, you can either take their advice or ignore it but if you want to stand out amongst them then perhaps you need to have a think about what you’re shooting.

    Sony a65 & 35 – F1.8 35MM, F2.8 30MM macro, 18-55mm kit, 75mm-200mm. Remotes, filters etc. Flash gun, tripods etc.

Pentax Super ME, a nice prime and long prime (i forget which, it’s in storage)

Various 35mm film cameras ranging from 1970s-1990s.

    I love them all dearly.

Oh, and a Fuji x10 so i don’t break my back carrying all the above but always have a camera on me.

Thanks JCfindlay. I think I lean more over to the art side of photography more than anything else. Look forward to your response.

I got slightly nervous when I saw a reply! Thanks for that, what you eating?

Sometimes I look at my portfolio and think i’m kidding myself. I’ve done a few odd jobs and i’m shooting a band’s press pack and album cover next month, I get worried though. I’m okay when i plan my shots but working as a photographer requires on the spot knowledge under whatever conditions arise on the day whereas I usually make notes of locations and come back to a street scene etc when i find the conditions right for me.

I’ve started a website where the idea is to include other enthusiasts who can sell their work on printed, etc, all the profit goes to them. I sell a few of my own too. I have an ultimate plan but it’s not necessarily centred around me becoming a photographer. I’d rather teach youngsters in ‘disadvantaged’ areas and pass on my passion for the hobby as well as give people a chance to show their work, which i advertise and promote. It’s early days yet though and i’m still not sure if i’m being big headed or not!
