Your macros are pretty good with DoF, which seems to be where most macro shooters go wrong.  (PS your mini painting skills are pretty slick too)

But what I enjoyed viewing was your river boats, trains and architecture shots. Those are subjects I find interesting, and you also seem to have an eye for such things. I would however suggest that you begin experimenting with different angles wherever possible and try bumping up the contrast. Sometimes misty or hazy atmosphere can be problematic for that, but a little extra “pop” could really set those photos apart.

I kind of like the one with the umbrella, though it’s a shame the boy’s face isn’t more in view.

I wonder if the person holding/tossing the baby is wearing a chroma key suit. Just for shits and grins I did a “flying kid” photo of one of my neighbors’ kids. Technically it’s mostly a matter of using a tripod and layer masks in PP, but artistically getting that pose to look natural and “flighty” is hard as hell. I finally explained to my model, who was balancing on her stomach across a bar stool, “It’s like planking, but not quite so stiff.”  After some post-production I showed her the images. She was impressed, but then again, she IS only nine years old and hasn’t seen what I can do with HDR and spot-colour.

The little guy in that slideshow will probably get a kick out of those pictures a few years from now, but when he’s a teenager, he’ll probably be willing to pay good money to have all copies of those images rounded up and destroyed.

Well I saw the thread title and suspected trollery, and I read the replies and tried to compose my own higher-road response, but others before me summed it up pretty well…so I’ll take that low road ‘kay?

They’re not fat, Your mind is just too narrow.

My inspiration is a strange but personal one. Years ago I was sharing a few pictures via AIM (yeah..that long ago) with a friend called Jade. She has a crippling  illness called Wilson’s Disease and her mobility is very limited. Furthermore she comes from a very traditional and restrictive Vietnamese family who don’t encourage her to push her own boundaries, whether those be physical or in the realm of self expression.

I was showing her some shots I took on a camping trip. They were not the best photos because they were taken with a low resolution digital camera with a slow sensor and no flash. I mentioned that I wasn’t real happy with the pics, and she said this.

“I would give anything to have two good legs and a camera.”.  I remember those words exactly. After that she went on to say that if she ever went to the mountains or the ocean or a different city she would take pictures of literally everything in case it was the last time she ever got to be there. She was afraid that the time would come that pictures would be all she had..and she had too few pictures like mine.

Ever since then, when I do a run of touristy snapshots of seemingly random things I encounter along the way, I label the album “TGLAAC” and the date in living memory of Jade Le.
