I just feel sorry for that cute little girl who’s been struck by the lightening bolt!
emfParticipantThe really low POV and tilt make it look like the photographer just fell over! And who is that random woman on the porch?

I don’t like agreeing to disagree. That’s just a polite way to end an argument when you aren’t getting anywhere. Instead, lets try to get somewhere.
Ok 🙂

I don’t think you’re the bad guy. I’ve said already you have offered great crits and I have been learning from them. You’re right, my issue has only ever been with the way you talk to people. I haven’t meant to come here as a newcomer and continually crit your crit’s as it were. That’s not why I’m here, but some of your comments just really needle me. I’m sorry but I can’t help it.
I realise others think differently but I stand by the fact that to my mind, the OP came back to apologise, and it got under my skin that you jumped on her. I don’t kiss anyone’s ass, I just don’t like to see people being treated badly. You have your opinions and I have mine and I guess we’ll never agree. So maybe agree to disagree. When you talk photography, trust me, I’m all ears and HAVE learnt a lot. When you name call and are unnecessarily mean, I just don’t like it – and my personality is that I have to say something.
I will try to stand back from this though, as it isn’t why I’m here, and to be honest, I’m tired of it. I came here to improve my photography and learn. That’s all, everything else is just bullshit. Btw, this isn’t about getting the last word, I really don’t care about that, I just wanted to respond.
@ IHF, Thank you for correcting the ‘sole’…it did make me smile though.

I realize though, it did sound as if I was saying your comment was mocking, I wasn’t, and apologise how that came across.
August 28, 2013 at 3:07 pm in reply to: Vary New to Photography…But I welcome constructive criticism #12380emfParticipantShe didn’t post for over a year just so she could come back to get the last word ONE YEAR LATER… are you serious? I have discussed things with you already and most times you have actually been the one to ‘get the last word’. So yeah, I really give a monkeys about that. You judge everyone by your own petty standards – you need to grow up.
August 28, 2013 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Vary New to Photography…But I welcome constructive criticism #12374emfParticipantI don’t know CC, if it’s predictive text that can make anyone sound a bit special. I understand you have present yourself well, both with your images and communication skills; and it was good advise that she needs to improve her language skills, but to mock her like that seems a low blow, especially seeing as she came back to apologise in the first place. She didn’t need to, it took courage.

Unfortunately, your poor grasp of the english language makes it look like I was just pointing out your grammatically errors. I’m sure you are a great mother and wife, but you’re a shitty photographer. Stick to what you do best.
Ebi, if you’re going to be a douche at least get it right. ‘Errors’ is a noun not a verb, so you use the adjective: GRAMMATICAL. ‘GRAMMATICALLY’ is an adverb, which you use with a verb.
English language begins with a capital E.

August 27, 2013 at 1:52 pm in reply to: Vary New to Photography…But I welcome constructive criticism #12356emfParticipantThank you for putting me straight IHF, do you know I have a 35 which I rarely use other than for landscape, small groups, street scenes etc., and I wouldn’t normally think to use it for something like a close up. Something else to investigate, many thanks 🙂
August 27, 2013 at 6:02 am in reply to: Vary New to Photography…But I welcome constructive criticism #12334emfParticipant“MBChamberlain wasted a lot of time posting that. Time that would have been better spent elsewhere. Weed out the idiots first, then you can help those who really care.”
I am starting to see this point Ebi, but one thing it doesn’t take into consideration is that such crits DO help the people who really care. The crit doesn’t have to be about your work for you to learn from it, in this case it was quite a board crit anyway which applies to all people wanting to start out. I and I’m sure others actually got quite a lot from that crit – maybe it was wasted on the OP, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste of time.
@ IHF Thank you for replying and the helpful hints – I will try them out with another macro shoot – though darn it, I was kinda look for a good excuse to get the 105 😉
I’m really interested in things like this;
http://www.redbubble.com/people/onegoodeye/works/10639712-swim?ref=work_main_It makes me think of Aaron Siskind’s abstract photographs – seeing something of interest and/or beauty in the smallest and/or seemingly most ‘unremarkable’ of things.
And I love this one!

I will look into extension rings – I just found a teleconverter in my favourite used camera shop. So I will check it out.

I know this thread is yonks old but I’m having a great time reading through all of these! Just wanted to say, IHF – I love your photos! Can I ask what lens you use please? I’m just getting into macro and use a 60mm 2:8 nikkor, but can’t seem to get as close as you get and don’t understand why. Would a longer focal length, like the 105, allow me to get closer?
emfParticipantThey are so bad – I don’t mean to be a B but I just can’t believe how dreadful this one is!
emfParticipantI’m in a similar position to you New2This, I have had it put to me a couple of times, first by a make up artist and second a friend – who shoots auto! to start up a business. Both times I have declined as I realise I’m nowhere near ready. My long term plan is to try doing this professionally but I know to do that, I need to put in the ground work and develop my competency with my camera. I’m very happy until then, to learn the craft properly and build my portfolio.
