I really don’t understand this. There was a poll on a photog facebook group asking everybody’s experience level: beginner, intermediate, pro, etc. Several of the people who described themselves as beginner had a their employment listed as owner of a photo business. I wonder if they went to visit a doctor if they would stay if the doctor said they had never been to medical school and had been interested in medicine for a few months.
One of the beginners has a website. Her marketing strategy seems to be providing quality photos at an affordable price. I would dispute the use of the word quality and even at her low prices, she is still over charging. If she took my photo, I would not pay for her photos in fact she would have to pay me to accept them.
December 13, 2014 at 10:43 am #23392picstopParticipant@ Chrystal…I like that analogy. Personally I’m glad that my doc went to medical school (is even involved in teaching) and didn’t just open an office cause she was passionate about medicine.
As for recessionphotography….starting with the couples shots, I notice 5 out of 7 are the same pose. Someone needs to take the time to learn how to pose people and learn what poses work for whom. The hug from behind is cute for some, uncomfortable for others and definitely should not be the only pose in your repertoire. She loves capturing the love in their eyes but in two pics they look more nauseous than in love.
As for any wedding shots, the few that there are for some strange reason, it’s just the usual bland or overcooked amateurish fare. Her prices do reflect her abilities but I agree, the prices are still a little high for what she puts out. And I don’t understand her pricing either. What the heck are “groupings” and why do I get 30 of them with my $900 wedding, along with 20 ceremony poses. Does this mean I get 50 pics for $900? Just something I’ve never seen before. I’m used to number of hours and number of prints.
Finally, I just love her self portrait on her home page. First of all, fake bokeh is my favourite…NOT…and you’ve just demonstrated to me that you don’t even know how to hold a camera properly.December 13, 2014 at 12:51 pm #23393sethParticipantre: Craiglist
That IS a fauxtographer, no real photographer would expect another photographer to do that kind of work. And read again, they DO want the RAW (if she knows what RAW even is), says they want the original digital files without watermark so she can edit them herself.
Ridiculous. At least if they want to go this route they need to pay someone more than $15 an hour. Even if you’re not an experienced photog, a wedding for 12 hours is very draining and tiring.
December 13, 2014 at 12:52 pm #23394sethParticipantOh, I’m sorry, maybe they’ll go $20 an hour, after all they are “flaxible.”
December 13, 2014 at 1:06 pm #23395sethParticipantAs for Recession… #1, stop giving photography businesses stupidly horrible names!
#2, I think that by “groupings” she means bride and groom with his parents, that’s one, bride and groom with her parents, that’s two, etc.
Sorry, I’ve not shot weddings before but I’ve assisted and um, I don’t think there’s time or what not to go, “ok Susie, you’ve had 5 groupings, let’s get to #6 now.” “Oh, sorry Billy, you’ve used all 30 groupings, no I cannot take a photo of you with your grandparents.” Crazy. I have NEVER heard of a photographer doing that. I’ve heard of time limits, yes, but not pose limits during wedding formals. Maybe I’m unusual but I haven’t.
December 13, 2014 at 2:11 pm #23396picstopParticipantSeth…I know the ad people wanted digital files to play with but some people think it’s ok to fool around with jpegs. Unless someone specifically mentions “raw”, I’ve found that many fauxs think jpegs are just as good. In any case, just a ridiculous “ad”.
Yeah, I tell ya, the “groupings” thing is nuts. It must make sense to her in some bizarre way but I have to wonder if her potential customers “get it”. And for sure the name is beyond nuts. What’s she going to do when the economy turns around, start calling it “Bullish Photography”? She’s halfway there if you know what I mean.
December 13, 2014 at 8:09 pm #23397It Makes My Eyes BurnParticipantAnother recent find in my neck of the woods. To me nothing says fake as saying you studied a the New York Institute of Photography while living in Texas. Must of been an online class for taking photos with a cellphone.

Not the best, but after a quick look I’d say they weren’t bad enough to be listed here.

@WSC True. On second glance they’re not good but also not anywhere near as awful as most of the fauxtogs listed here. It won’t allow me to delete my post unfortunately.
