I feel like most are from the south and the mid west.    I’d like to see a New york City or California Faux.

I totally agree with you, I live in Texas and there are a lot here. I took this as a challenge to find one from New York or California… I found this guy in New York!

Ummm…I found plenty of fauxtographers in California, especially in the Los Angeles area and within about a 100 mile radius outside of it. You would think in the world of Hollywood and glamor, you won’t find fauxtographers. Well guess again!

I have to admit, there are pretty good photographers that I found on Craig’s List under the Los Angeles section, but this guy is terrible, especially his wedding shots. His nature shots are alright: http://www.shoalhphotography.com

These photographers are from the Inland Empire area of California, about 60 miles away from LA.

Ok guys, thanks for making this topic happen.  It seems that the Ca ones try real hard but miss the mark a bit. I didn’t see any epic fails. here’s a few bad ones I found on Craigslist.

    New York City.

Check out those green glasses. Lol

Make sure you check out the website on this one.  the first picture I have no idea what the heck it is. I looks like it could be Santa.

    California.

These are some pretty bad wedding photos.

    only $500 for a wedding.

These are pretty bad also. charging $800 on Craigslist for a full day of photography.

EEK! Aarnold, those unforgettable studios ones! There are so many images with an overdone diffuse glow filter… and so many with unfortunate focusing! I would be livid if those were my wedding photos! Half of them aren’t in focus enough to be larger than an 4×6! They had one interesting ideas, but none of executed well and so few of their images are technically sound. It’s sad…

Also, does anyone else feel like “Award-Winning” is becoming to Photography what “Gourmet” has become to food? Where people just slap it on to say; “Hey, I’m on the scale from barely passable to great!”?
Think about it. How many “gourmet” box dinners or cans of condensed soup that are a hot mess do we pass by at the supermarket? Ultimately it says nothing about the product itself, it’s just marketing. I feel like the “Award Winning” title is going that way for sure… it’s disappointing that someone can submit crap to hundreds of contests and get lucky enough to squeak by with one nod of approval in their direction, then the faux takes it and runs!

This thread is a bit of a witch hunt.. Little bit outlandish to be actively ‘seeking’ for people to make fun of, don’t you think? I didn’t dig too deeply in the links posted, but none of them (from what I’ve seen), would make it to the front page on this site.

There’s pure shit and then there’s “OK–fairly decent”. When people say, ‘fauxtog’, I automatically assume someone that’s spot colored, out of focus, bad angles, loss of detail, and the other shit that perpetually quantifies them as horrible. Most so than that, is they don’t give a fuck about their clients and are just trying to make a dollar.

dont.care: that’s why the only one I commented on was the unforgettable studios one. It seemed, to me, like it was the most likely of the candidates to end up on the main page. The diffuse filter is so bad on some of them in their stream. I think posting examples is a little much. I was hoping people would talk more about “Yeah, I’ve seen ___ in my area, which is ______” and going off of that.
Honestly, from what I’ve seen fotop likes to stir up trouble =/

Maybe it’s a witch hunt.  Maybe they don’t all belong on the front page.  But it’s still shitty work.  I also grew tired of only seeing  shitty photographers from no relevant podunk Hillbilly places.  Of course there are going to be a lot fauxs there.

New York and  CA are fashion capitols.  I whist wanted to prove a point that  its harder to find shit in more talented cities

That’s not really what the spirit of this community is though. We don’t go hunting for people’s flaws and I don’t think we ever should. If you want to stir up trouble and be insulting, go to 4chan.

New York and California are a progressive liberal tree hugging hippies paradise; you can have both of them and shove them up your ass. “Fashion Capitols”, haha. Blow it out of your ass, there’s people of impeccable quality from all over the globe, not just in your concrete jungles..

Anyway, holy shit–it seems as if, craigslist is full of that shit, everywhere. I don’t really think bad photography is a product of only the south and midwest. I believe it’s in general, everywhere, equally. Not to mention, the more people you have, the more fucking ‘fauxtogs’ you have.

In general, most of your ‘fauxtogs’ are probably located in areas that have a greater concentration of people. Military bases thrive with them. Areas around ‘ART SCHOOLS’, have an abundance as well. Tbh, the larger your city and population, the more likely you are to have a specific criteria of people. It just doesn’t stand out as much as it would where there is a smaller concentration of people.
