Don’t know much about wedding photography, but to me the photos look better than average. I wouldn’t say they are outstanding, but I doubt the clients are going to be upset with them – I’ve seen far worse.
As to the artsy photographer. I don’t know maybe it’s not to your taste, but does that mean he’s not a photographer? After reading the two posts that you linked to and browsing around the website it seems like he’s more about experimenting with post production than taking photos. For me the blurry dog photo is a risk that probably missed the mark, but like you said he’s got some good photos on there at the same time, so I think he’s just trying to find himself as a photographer and attempting to learn through sharing.
