She Makes Less Than Minimum Wage

This my friends proves that you indeed do get what you pay for. If you can’t read the weird font, that’s $300 per a wedding with a second shooter.

  1. Hope she’s ready to burn out quickly because she’s not making any money.

  2. This is why I do commercial photography.

  3. I’m more shocked at the $20 for the high-resolution images with printing rights. I don’t know a professional photographer who’d consider letting them out at all, let alone for that cheap.

Well, that’s not true. I did work for one who was considering selling the negatives of his older film work just so he’d have the storage space available. This was years after the images were taken and he wasn’t sure how much to ask. I never followed up to get his eventual decision.

    • I know someone that sells their negatives for around $1000 for the first purchase, and $150 for each one after the first purchase.

    • I know, why the hell would you purchase the other packages when you could just get the CD and print them yourself. The photog is probably using Walmart at these prices.

  4. Gmail email and a wix site are the first mistake…

  5. It actually says $500 per wedding with a second shooter. But that’s still really cheap.

  6. Sad thing is weddings only happen once, no re-takes. These wannabes are wrecking the trade. Can’t their spouses find some other hobby for them, like finger painting or something?

    • Well, since 50% of marriages end in divorce. you have a 50% chance that this bride will hire you a second time. . . . um, never mind, once she sees the work. . .

  7. Now you know why I stopped doing portraits and weddings, closed my studio, but kept my lights. Now I only work when they WANT me, by reputation, and pay my rates. I work less, but earn more net.

You cannot compete on price, so don’t. Just recognize, you may not make a living in a devalued marketplace.

    • And the really sad part is that people don’t recognize a bad photographer when they’re interviewing them. I can’t tell you how many couples I meet with who never ask me about my equipment, whether I have back up equipment, my storage or anything about my credentials! I hand out a sheet of talking points when I meet with wedding clients and tell them “This is what you need to ask any photographer you talk to!”

      • that is an awesome idea about the talking points so u inform them so they don’t make a bad choice!

    Why?

    • I was wondering that too. I have a wix site and I really like how easy it is to update and redesign on occasion. I’m a photographer, not a web designer, and I don’t have the money to pay a web designer to create a site. I like my site!

It’s not the be all and end all, but a free e-mail service e-mail address and a WIX domain name/address as opposed to your own domain name is just not as professional looking.

Especially when domain names and “proper” web hosting is so cheap – and mail can be configured to go to Gmail, and Gmail can be set up to send mail so it looks like your domain name is the sending address.

      • Anonymous

Oh I see, i paid the fee to use my own domain name and have e-mail.

If you think the picture in the top-left corner is an example of your best work, then you are not a photographer.

Not to dismiss all of the other problems here, but this raises one question in particular: Why are so many fauxtogs totally oblivious to backgrounds? To my eye, that patch of sky is more attention-grabbing than the (footless?) couple, and this sort of thing shows up here over and over again.

Wow. facebook, gmail AND wix? Must be a pro, right?

It disgusts me that these talentless hacks are devaluing photography by calling themselves photographers and charging less than operating expenses to stroke their egos. Why can’t the become caterers or something?????

    • Wsroadrunner

This is probably someone who got a DSLR for Christmas and is already a pro, all set and ready to shoot weddings.

    • Aw, come on…then they’d just devalue the catering industry! They’d get some trendy kitchen gadget and start selling their services because the gadget makes them a professional.

    Hi, Another Steve!
Why it took until 23:39 on 1/14 for me to recognize you, I don’t know. See you soon.

  12. If you’re going to charge only $20 for a CD/DVD of hi-res images with printing rights, why bother to have those other packages (also priced way too low.) Why would a customer buy anything other than the CD? Dumb!

  13. White Trash Portraits, Inc.

  14. Anyone else note that she does 10×13 prints? Does she think a lot of people who had their photos taking in the 70’s and 80’s at Kmart and Sears still have a lot of extra frames kicking around?

  15. This photography is terrible, but having looked at some of the peoples work who commented on this post makes me laugh! Same old commercial landscape, followed by some flower shots, then a corny portrait, then some ‘wildlife’. Photography is about capturing a single moment, something that occurred that will never be again, yet the type of photographs i mention are ruining the credibility of photography and decent photographers worldwide.

Spelling is incorrect in a few places as well

  17. When I see pictures like this, I think jeez, if this is all that’s required to make a ton of money, I’m golden. I have a DSLR, somewhere around here…I can press the shutter button like a *pro*, baby. Vast riches, here I come. Boo-yeah.

  18. djacob15

Her photos are lame, but they’re not comically horrible.

  20. Hi, can I please have this fauxtographer’s information, so I can rip her a new asshole for ruining the market. Thanks.
