I’m New to This

I just got a DSLR. Actually, I just have a point and shoot, but I saw some of my friend’s open up photography shops, and I really always liked takin’ pictures, so here I am! Puke.

  1. black AND white artificial vigneting….
    My eyes are bleading!

    • woah now

Are you serious? Sorry but your stuff might actually be worse than hers. it made me cringe.

    • Oh my god, can we feature this person who commented above me?!

    • If you are the photographer your name is linked to (Toto) you really need to rethink posting your link through your name. You are a definite contender for this site. Many of your shots are oversaturated, badly posed or out of focus. Go back to learning how to take a photograph before you go learning how to take peoples money for sub-par photography. Which is what I’m guessing you’d be planning to do, since your page is a ‘local business’.

      • Wsroadrunner

You’re not in Kansas anymore toto… all I saw where you are linked to is substandard “works” that truly deserve to be featured here.

    • High Horsie

      you spelled “bleading” incorrectly

      • Hey guys, I really don’t know from where the link comes from.
I’m not the photographer, the website was filled from the browser cache. -_-‘ sorry

      • Marc W.

Like the Groupon photographers blaming the “Web Guy” for the other photographers’ photos on their site. 🙂

    • See I’ve said it before, half the people who comment on this site are the worst offenders. Really? out of focus, underexposed images and your eyes are bleeding? Come on!

  2. I was checking out the “likes” on the page of the fauxtographer and this is a preteen not an adult.

    • You Are Not a Photog

I didn’t see evidence of that, and will take it down if the case.

      • Not a teen or pre teen – although based on their “real” site – I’d say YANAP has been “punked”. Or the featured photographer’s FB page was hacked.

Her fb page is no longer up and the images on her real page are not the same as the ones shown here…

After last week’s fiasco – I’d say YANAP once again is left with egg on Ginger and Mary Anne’s face…

  3. Wsroadrunner

But, but, but… mommy said she liked them!

    Bwahahahahaha

“With your choice of location” = I don’t own a studio, nor have any studio lights, and probably don’t know what to do with them if I did.

    • Actually, one does not need a studio or studio lights to be a photographer. But, one does need to know how to use their equipment. Sadly, it appears that this person has not yet learned that skill.

      • BurninBiomass

In this area, everyone who has “location only” shoots is a Fauxtographer. No, you don’t have to have them to be a photographer, but the lack of them is usually an indication.

      • Wsroadrunner

Agreed. While a fauxtographer can get mediocre shots without proper lighting, a photographer knows how to make use of proper lighting and how to work with natural light to make it work… every time.

  5. Must be new English too.

They do state right out of the gate that they are new to the photography field. So if people happen to like what they see, and want to try them. Who are we to stop them, we were all new to a field at one time or another. Every time I stop by this site I get erked. I thought the site was so give constructive advice, not bash the photographer, and even worse the people that hired the photographer. To the site owners you have some of likes showing. You can not tell from those that this person is you? Hey at least you were able to get your jollies at someone elses expense. Maybe you should post some of your own photographs. Oh that is right you are probably not even photographers.

    • Derpface

Who said the site was “to give constructive advice”? Why can’t it just be to bitch and whine, what’s wrong with that? As for your “Likes” argument, your grammar is so bad that I’m not sure what you’re trying to say…

    • I don’t ever recall seeing anywhere on this site that said anything about giving “constructive advice.” And your bad spelling and use of punctuation get me “erked.”

    • BurninBiomass

Why would you think a site named “You are not a photographer” was there to give constructive advice?

    • colt1911

This is a reply to all those below my reply. Oh to have a battle of witts with unarmed people just is not fare. I know how upset so many get when things are not spelled properly, or proper grammer is not followed to a T. I enjoy doing that on purpose to high light the ones that have no clue what they are talking about. So to feel superior they attack the spelling and grammer. So sad!

  7. “I will take all of your photos horizontally and put a really bad vignette around them to disguise my inability to compose photos well.”

  8. (another steve)

Personally, what I would do would fix the skin tones so it doesn’t look like battered child meets rosacea.
And I’d crop it differently so the torso can be viewed.

  9. “Why do so many of the words on my page have little red squiggles under them?”

  10. Cheapest around, indeed! Maybe if she’s new to it, she should learn a few more things…on the other hand, I doubt she’ll get business from this, so no harm done, really.

  11. Yeah just who I want to do my pics – someone farting from the Taco Bell while hopped up on Mountain Dew. Oy!

  12. i dont always add vignettes, but when i do i make them BLACK AND ROUND! lol

  13. you know what i find even funnier than the description… the “likes and interests” posted below the fauxtog’s description. mountain dew, pillsbury, and sponge bob square pants? classy.

  14. When you are starting a business, the first order of business is to learn how to spell “Business”. And Toto, if that is really your page….you should stop commenting on other people and how their photos make your eyes “blead”.

  15. Anonymous

the Page likes on the bottom are the best part

  16. Foil Gamma

We dont want to take a look at your place.. Sorry.

  17. Grammar Police

The grammar, punctuation and spelling is just as appalling as their pictures, if not worse.

Hi, I saw the description on this post and was curious, how should people start off or approach things? I just started wanting to actually pursue professional photography and I am the first to say that I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing. It’s really scary to start out when there are so many talented people telling you you’ll never be good enough. I don’t consider myself a professional by any rights but I would love to achieve that someday. At this point I do not charge for my photos, seeing as I am so new to this. Taking pictures has been a passion of mine since I was big enough to hold a camera. I guess the point of this comment is this, how does one appropriately start a professional photography career?

  19. I loved as much as you’ll receive carried out right here.
The sketch is tasteful, your authored material stylish.
nonetheless, you command get bought an impatience over that you wish be delivering
the following. unwell unquestionably come further formerly again as exactly the same
nearly a lot often inside case you shield
    this hike.
