Sorry I was away from this thread for a bit. Yes I’d like the info on the group, and thank you for your assistance (to both I hate Fauxtography and to Kathi)

Question teachers since you are still enrolled

Unfortunately I graduated in September, I walk on the 20th of this month. I’d just thought it was difference of opinion when one of my teachers called for ideas and suggestions and then said “Deanna, you’ve said too much”

Thank you for your kind words Trainwreck, I’ll admit I was getting defensive with some of the others’ comments. Some of my photos are edited certain ways yes due to classes, but also because I (or the bride) like the final result.

If anyone is still on the thread, I’m posting photos in the ‘People’  gallery, I think these ones are some of my best

Okay, I did know broad/short/etc I just didn’t know the terms (or forgot them)

They should have taught you them all also about zones, high/low key, shallow depth of field, deep depth of field, selective focus, exposure compensation, lighting (even just the basics would work), business classes,  and the list goes on and on…

I guess I didn’t think of those as composition/cropping but as something else. Yes we did have two Business of Photography classes

Composition/Cropping: Rule of thirds, don’t put in the direct center, interesting eye direction instead of staring at the camera, no poles coming out of people’s heads,

My personal post production is done in Lightroom only. Shoot in raw, cuz less loss, copy as DNG from memory card to new folder, color balance it with something around the room that I know for a fact is white/black/gray. I usually don’t batch process, I usually go one at a time. Creating proof sheet (through lightroom) is easy.

Head or glasses tilted down somewhat to reduce glass glare. I know why it happens but not how to avoid it all the time.

Diffuser if at all possible for harsh sunlight.

I know perspective distortion and I correct lens distortion in lightroom

I can shoot without going artsy and explain it.

I have a second shooter, though he’s more for the candid behind the scenes shots.

I have redundancies in a second DSLR (lower model than mine) five lenses, two extra batteries per camera, charger jic, extra memory cards, and a netbook (to work as a portable hdd and copy stuff off the camera after the ceremony is over)

My actual equipment list is: Nikon D3200 (main), Nikon D60 (spare), 18-55 lens, 18-135 lens, 28-80 manual lens, 55-200 lens, 70-300 lens, 64gb memory card, 32gb memory card, hand full of 8-and-lower memory cards, and my flash just broke so I need to buy a new one.

I have a shots list which is discussed and gone over, adding in any additional photos the b/g want (such as the photo on the overlook, looking over the city)

I go to the rehearsal and ‘scout’ the location then, and talk to the minister. Generally speaking, at least in my area, the ministers prefer no flashes (even on camera or hotshoe flash) during the ceremony to keep it sacred.

I’ve only done three weddings and the weather has been good for all three (knock on wood). I did have an alternate place to shoot the bride/groom/wedding party/family/friends/etc looking over the city the one day since it was raining during the ceremony but clear after.

No I didn’t realize weddings were the most sued genre, no I don’t have insurance, yes I have/will pay taxes on it, no I’m not registered since.

Avoiding noise I don’t know (besides what was told to me in this thread) nor do I know (at least the terms) short and broad lighting. I have used off-camera lighting before but don’t use it often since I don’t own any myself, it was all from the school.

Phew, I think I answered all of them, admitting the ones that I don’t know.

And this is to ‘Worst Case Scenario’ I believe I do have a creative eye/eye for detail, seeing things that most people don’t

Since it’s almost 11 pm I’ll work on answering them tomorrow lol. Reading over I think I know most of the answers, but like I said it’s too late to go through all of them tonight 🙂

Yes I’m still monitoring the thread, I’ve been out all day yesterday/today, in fact I did some photoshoots with my BJDs (Ball Jointed Dolls) downtown today. To all the questions you asked me, are you expecting answers or are they hypothetical?

Yes the other 38 pages of photos. Most date 2011.

I posted more on DeviantART before than I do now. I have a bunch in my sta.sh still that I need to submit, but I haven’t had the time.

So why are they even on display?

What I meant is they’re ones I should’ve put descriptions on.

Your deviant i.d  lists you as an artist and PROFESSIONAL photographer, yet you use pictures from classes assignments on your portfolio?

Professional, by definition, means you’ve been paid for your work. I’ve been paid to take photographs for two weddings so far. A third myself and another took photos for the bride as a wedding present. Of course I’ll use my class assignments until I become more established.

If you are a professional photographer, you decide when and where the pics are taken.

Not if the bride and groom have a set time they HAVE to be at the reception by.

Welcome to the real world! It’s not like photo class is it!

    Why the attitude here?

Oh and yes I am a BS from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh

Yes I passed all my core (photo) classes. The only classes I ever failed were a math and a psychology class

…and I couldn’t see anything in the Wedding folder that you said you looked through that is like what you’re describing. However in my outdoor I found http://dklemmphotography.deviantart.com/art/Outdoor-9-397008944 if that’s the photo in question it’s demonstrating underwater photography. It’s more fine-art style photo.

I knew some of these would be picked. Weddings 7, 8, 14 and 19 were class assignments, 19 was for a magazine class. 15 was between the wedding and reception, the only time the bride wanted to take for pictures

And the church pic was so noisy because flash isn’t allowed inside the cathedral.

Oh and the black and white wedding shots (1-6) were black and white (color process) film. The sepia one was added, but the b/w was actually b/w.

To Worst Case Scenario, what was the image you had no idea about?

To CameraClicker (sorry can’t see how to reply directly to the post) my final portfolio is hopefully going to be my first permanent portfolio that I will show around to possible clients. It’s not just for a course, it’s for the program itself, if that makes sense.

    Eh heh heheh, oops ^^;

Redbubble sounds like a ‘nicer’ version of DeviantART, since dA unfortunately has trolls to deal with (the ‘u sux, go dai nao’ type)

And photo.net sounds like the perfect place. I just felt I had to defend myself here, since it felt I was being attacked, the worst of my images being what the whole gallery was judged with… Cosplay Snapshots and a Cellphone image… And people keep saying portfolio when I’ve said (a few times) that dA is my gallery, not my portfolio. (The last wedding image that was linked here, I commented that I should’ve said ’20 of my images’ not ’20 best images’, but that was part of the post that got eaten)

Are my last two posts showing up? I gave a list of my best of my gallery, along with comments to different people, but it’s not showing for me… I’ll post it without the links this time.

I Hate Fauxtography: I saw your redbubble (never saw that site before) and it’s very lovely 🙂 I’ll also check out photo.net

Archy: I’m sorry you think I’m a troll, but I don’t think my gallery (Gallery, not Portfolio) should be judged by obvious snapshots of an anime con, or by a cellphone image. There are a lot of other images in which to judge my skill, and the worst of the worst were chosen.

Valderrama: Thank you for your tips, one of my professors actually had us recreating a painting in photography, then making photos inspired by said painting.

    HelloMarcy: I have to lol at the way you put it, and thanks at saying I’m a hero ^^;
