I wouldn’t say anything to them, its not your place. That’s like telling some one how ugly a dress is they just bought with out them asking for your opinion, its just rude. I do agree that those photos on that FB page are not that great, but there is nothing you can do about them. I would say to maybe message your family and say something like ” Hey I saw you got your photos done, you know I am always here for you if you want new photos in the future”. Keep it short and sweet and you don’t have to lie about not liking them, just don’t mention the quality at all. (Unless they ask, then its fair game lol )

Not really sure, but you can buy likes on FB or people will do one giveaway and get a whole bunch of likes out of it. Hahaha she has pictures of the food she cooks on there! There is a girl right down the road from me that is a $50 shoot and burn that stinks and she has over 1500 likes, its not the quality that determines how many likes you have sadly.

85mm prime is next on my list 🙂 Those are neat pictures! I am finding a new love for photoshop and trying to find my way around it (only had it for a month lol). I am going to be starting a series soon called “little wonderland” with more of those little portraits I am excited about it!

I haven’t updated that flicker in a while so I am not sure that is the best representation of my work :/ http://www.facebook.com/tealgarciaphotography is the newer stuff. I use a 50mm 1.8 most of the time… it rarely leaves my camera unless I need zoom for some reason. The newborn shoot was for an acquaintance and it was my first and probably only for a while because it was nerve racking and it took 3 hours to get 10 final shots that I was proud of because the baby wouldn’t sleep. I don’t think I could do seniors… crabby teenagers would get on my nerves… so props to you lol

I have no tips on indoor lighting… I do mostly outdoor and lifestyle photography… I find the light where I can! The newborn session I just did I posed the baby under the window in the clients house in order to not use any type of alternative light source.  If you have a facebook there is this great photography group on there that you can ask about lighting. One of the guys that runs it is always going on about his studio and his lighting set up. https://www.facebook.com/groups/newbiephotographers/

Sorry I am not more help with that but that group is pretty great, almost 6000 people on there, someone always has an answer to my questions 🙂

I am not sure if there is really a rule… I usually make sure that there is room to crop to 8×10 since that is a popular size and it is very different then a 5×7  and if you ever end up doing gallery wraps you will need space around the edge otherwise some ones forehead will be folded around the edge. Images right out of the camera with no crop done print perfectly as a 4×6 then a 5×7 crops a little bit but not super noticeable but a 8×10 is a whole lot different. Its almost square compared to the other 2. How you crop your photos in post isn’t a huge deal if you sell prints because then you know you can go back in and fix what you need to fix before you send it to the printers. If you sell digital copies on a disk however you have to realize that a client 9 times out of 10 are not going to realize that the crop for different size prints is sometimes drastically different and they aren’t going to be too happy with their cropped of arms and ears. I just run my crop tool in photoshop and click on the different sizes and make sure everything fits in all the crop sizes before I save my completed images, I don’t use lightroom but I am sure there is something similar 🙂  Sorry if that was long and I hope it makes sense, its late and I am packing for a 3 month trip with a 2 year old in only 2 suit cases lol

I mostly just looked through your senior albums and they look good. Your composition is nice and you DOF is wonderful. The only thing I can say is they seem a bit over edited to me, mostly the girl with the dark hairs eyes and some of the close ups of her skin look airbrushed. I do lifestyle photography so it may just be my personal taste but because I noticed it I wanted to mention it 🙂

I think overall they look really nice. The only critique I have is to watch your crops weather it be in the camera or in post. A lot of the photos the family takes up the whole frame while it doesn’t necessarily look bad it makes it harder for prints. You cant crop those down to an 8×10 frame with out loosing body parts.  Just keep that in mind in the future its always better to have more space around them. Good job, they look great! Nice and sharp and I love the fall tones 🙂

I totally agree with you, I live in Texas and there are a lot here. I took this as a challenge to find one from New York or California… I found this guy in New York!

    @Iliketag3

Currently I have just the kit lens 18-55 that the T3i came with and I also have a 28-90 kit lens from a canon film SLR I use to use before film and developing got so expensive :/ I use the 28-90 mostly because it just seems to work better then the one the T3i came with. I am looking into more lenses and a 50mm is first on my list. I switch back and forth a lot between auto and manual focus because most of my photos (as I am sure you noticed) are of my daughter and trying to manually focus on a moving toddler I think would result in no focused shots lol.

Thank you for the encouraging words 🙂

I am still learning also so I can’t give too much knowledge but I can share my opinion as an outsider 🙂 I like some of your stuff. A lot of the newer stuff on your facebook page looks very “instagram-ish”, which doesn’t set you apart from just some Joe with an iphone. Your portraits are nice, I like the ones of the guy in the field the most.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=517737668244637&set=pb.127313180620423.-2207520000.1368601818.&type=3&theater that one is my favorite but it could be brightened up a bit so you can see his face a bit clearer.

You need to watch your horizons there are some photos that would be much better if you straightened them out a bit. Example.

Like I said I am still new to this too but that’s just my opinion 🙂 Keep shooting and keep practicing, even for veteran photogs that’s the best advice 🙂

@ nairbynairb  The wall behind her is actually on a slant. Our apartment was the attic in a big house so the paneling comes down at an angle, if that makes sense. I straightened it up a bit but I agree its not perfectly straight and it bothered me at first.

@thom I only added a few images to flickr for examples but once I add more and explore the site a little more I will be sure to make categories 🙂

@ Worst case I do love that photo,  I actually only just took it yesterday and it was more of me just liking the light where my daughter was sitting so the “dummy” (we call it a choopie) was not really what I was thinking about, but I agree that is the only thing I don’t like about that image.

@Sarah I am working on my ISO issues, I seem to  keep turning it up because I think it looks good on the screen but once they are larger on the computer monitor I see all the noise… Thank you for pointing it out.

Thank you all for your input! I am still pretty new at this so it gives me encouragement to keep going!
