SERIOUSLY! I have heard that the two companies sort of fall back and forth in the race… But comparing a camera brand to those type of stereotypes is sort of offensive (at least to me). It just reminds me too much of highschool.
YES that is another thing. She just openly photographs herself and friends with paraphanalia. Thankfully for her though it is now legal in Washington (where she lives) but otherwise it wasn’t like she actually pulling clientele, just friends who probably were like ‘hey, i’ll smoke you out if you take pictures of me’. I personally have dabbled in weed but I would never advertise it, especially on my facebook page. The horse show moms would kill me…
Thank you! It’s honestly the most fun I’ve ever had, and it’s very fulfilling. Some people don’t appreciate it but it makes me feel like myself. You should do it! I feel like everyone should at least have a tiny piece of color in their hair at one point in their life. :]
mykelheleneParticipantmykelheleneParticipantI’m religious (though I don’t look like the type) and I honestly cannot stand when people sort of shove it down your throat that they believe in God. It’s always okay to have a random ‘I feel blessed!’ or ‘I give credit of my success to God’, but honestly that kind of stuff even makes religious people uncomfortable. Its just not a good situation. I also dislike when people give credit for all of their accomplishments to God, i’m always like ‘Wait, sure, God might have given you choices, but you chose that path, and you chose that action, so therefore YOU should take credit for that’.
I’m going to give this a whirl.

This is a girl I know through a mutual (photographer) friend. My first interaction with her was via facebook, when she was making a status about her camera. She has a Nikon (not familiar with them, but i’m pretty sure it might be the equivalent of the Canon Rebel XTI-T1I) and her statement was “Nikon is the sexy smart brunette of the camera world, Canon is the epitome of a dumb blond slutty girl.” I was sort of floored. I have Canon, but I freaking love Nikon. I also love Canon, and even Pentax. After asking about what she meant I understood from the undertones that she might have just been trying to sound like a ‘cool’ photographer. You know ‘PSH MY CAMERA IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOURS BITCH PLEASE’ kinda thing. It was frustrating, but even more frustrating was when I saw her photos. Her explanation for them not being edited was ‘I like photos the way that they’re seen in real life’. I just.. don’t.. understand.
One of my favs;
here’s another, where I actually had to ask WHY?
I think she shoots on auto, but i’m not 100 percent sure.
All I know is she is charging, and that I don’t like it.
I definitely wouldn’t say she’s really main page material, but she’s really not ‘good’ at all.
mykelheleneParticipant@BEG You wonder why we take the fact that you’re pompus from this forum, and then youpost non stop about the people bashing on you being ‘jealous’… Really? No one is jealous of you. Just stop saying that.
mykelheleneParticipantOther people are being honest, I was being honest to her earlier also, but some of it is coming across pretty rude and mean.
mykelheleneParticipantOkay, everyone can stop ripping her a new one now. I’m pretty sure she understands. I don’t think its fair to really rip apart her work. All photographers make mistakes and occasionally get a ‘blown out’ ‘overexposed photo’. The only difference is that she used the photo and put it up. Even though we don’t see eye to eye doesn’t mean she needs to be ridiculed.
mykelheleneParticipantWhoops, meant to post this in the portrait. It’s late and my mind is fuzzy. Sorry.
P.s. I’m not all that proud of my music work, since I am not confident in that area yet (only have been shooting shows maybe twice a month for 5 months).

Live music; (some of these I took with my pancake lens, so not exactly the quality I like)
This picture has been up for discussion, since it wouldn’t be very usable to the artist, but I like the feel of it. 8166331727_9315081b26_c.jpg

There you go BrownEyedGirl.
mykelheleneParticipantI live in LA, so I can understand why weather is constricting. It hits 50 degrees here and people refuse to go outside, yet I still convince friends, people I don’t know, and even in desperate times my own pets to take pictures. I fly to Seattle once a month, and I’ve taken photos there in 40 degree weather. Tomorrow I will be flying to Maryland, and my friends and I are planning to shoot outside once we get there, even though it will probably be 25-30 degrees. Either way there are other options. I’ve taken pictures using window light, lamp light… I have to agree with Jenna. No one is mad at you, and no one is trying to make you feel crappy, but we’re just pointing out what we see.
mykelheleneParticipantI have read them, and i’m sorry that I didn’t divulge into every little statement that you said/posted. But this is coming from an outside perspective, instead of getting defensive maybe you should take note. If people are noticing this about you (and i’m talking about multiple random people) maybe you are doing something? In all honesty every time i’ve read something you’ve written on here it comes across as pompous.
Looks like someone has become obsessed with me… lol. Saving screenshots. Must not have much else to do?
I’m not trying to sound rude, but I’m being honest. I’m sorry that I’m offending you. I have seen other people post links, you’re right! But not to the extent you have. Maybe you are one of those photographers who just become very in-depth in online communities, but I couldn’t help to notice this all about you. You’re telling me that you re-edited the photos anyways, even though it is copyright infringement and even though ‘they don’t give you much to work with’. You just edited them for fun then right? And then posted them on this website.. as proof that you could, i’m sorry, up the brightness, sharpen and then throw on an action.
There’s quite a bit more to editing than that, you should know that if you’re really a photographer right?
It’s funny, the fact that you react and sort of post minor jabs.
Of course, I do know that! But what I see here is an action. If it is an action thats great! And if it isn’t that’s even better! But the bottom line isn’t really whether it’s an action or not, it’s how you put yourself out on these forums. Please don’t put words in my mouth, I never said you said ‘ew their work sucks’. I’m just saying, maybe you should lay off the YANAP forum and go take some pictures.
mykelheleneParticipantI have to agree with Jenna on this one. I basically have been lurking these forums for a long time and almost on every thread I see BrownEyedGirl belittling someone, or posting a link of a fauxtog, even when it’s not necessary and when people don’t ask for links (ex. ‘see, like this persons photo -insert link here-). I understand wanting to look at others peoples works and picking out what you wouldn’t have done or would have done, but sometimes you seem to take it a little far. You don’t ALWAYS have to point out a fauxtog as an example for what someone does wrong. You can simply explain it. And Jenna has a point about the classes, you claim to be a ‘semi-pro’ (which doesn’t really exist, you’re either professional, or you’re not) but yet you say you’re giving classes and need help and tips. If you need help and tips, should you be giving classes? I’m starting out as a professional, and I will rep that I am a professional because that is what my mentor taught me. Once you start accepting money for photoshoots, that technically makes you a professional. So either represent that you are a professional, and act professional, or act like a hobbyist.
On the previous page you state that you edited someone elses pictures to show what they COULD have done to make them ‘better’. But what it looks like to me is you threw an action on there and straightened an image. That to me in general isn’t something that anyone should do. I would never take an image and say to a potential client ‘Oh here’s the crappy pictures blahblah took of you, I edited them and made them better, cheers!’. Leave it alone, let the fauxtogs learn on their own, and try not to make yourself look pompous. People only change for themselves, and honestly if a ‘fauxtog’ (essentially a beginner photographer who is getting ahead of themselves) cannot change and get better, then thats FINE with me.
mykelheleneParticipant2 Canon 5D Mark II’s
Canon 70-200 2.8 IS
Canon 85mm 1.2 II
Canon 15mm 2.8 fisheye
And a pancake lens, for fun 🙂
mykelheleneParticipantLets not also forget it seems that the photographer is at a ground angle… And to be honest, I can walk back and forth on my horses back pretty easily, along with laying on them.. sliding off their butt.. Us horseback riders can get pretty weird. Most of us don’t wear helmets or protective gear, especially the younger riding generations and horses used to this most of the time DONT take off or bolt. Some horses are spookier than others. I have a horse that spooks at anything, and one that i have jumped off of (in a position like this) and didn’t even flinch.
mykelheleneParticipantHi cameraclicker! i think she’s actually accurately proportioned with the horse. The horses fetlock and hooves are missing from the photo (maybe a rolling of the land? Not sure) which is about 4 inches maybe? If she was standing on the ground it seems that the horses withers (the point where his neck meets the topline of his back) hit around her shoulder area… Thats average. I have 3 horses, and i’m 5’8… One horse’s shoulder hits my shoulder, one hits the top of my head, and one hits me at mid-stomach height. Horses range from 14.1 hands (a hand = 4 inches) to 18.1 hands. 14.1 hands = 4.9 feet, and thats measured to the wither (shoulder). And i’ve seen horses stand like that before, depends on the breed and the conformation.
mykelheleneParticipantJust throwing this out there, I don’t think she is photoshopped onto the horse. Thats an accurate proportion, horsey to human ratio..
