MemberI mean the huge photo which makes up the header of a user’s profile; you’d have to see someone’s page and mine is closed. The default page won’t show that.

MemberHey, ya I’m still here on yrnap, but no longer on 500px. They changed the appearance of the users’ page and I don’t like it at all; the huge pic at the top just bothers me…
I’ll keep my eye out for another site that suits me better.
cheers!

MemberI do see all that social stuff, and ya it’s annoying. However, I like the fact that it’s quite difficult for the average (even more savvy) users to download photos without buying them. Sure, they could get a screen cap, but I don’t worry about my hi-res images: I tried to steal one of my own and all I got was a thumbnail.
It’s also neat that once I upload pictures, I can see right away if they’re noticed. I’ve put up a few that got no attention at all, so I removed them, then changed them to black and white, and they got votes. While I’m aware it is more of a popularity contest rather than photo skills, it DOES help me sort through my images to choose better.
As for the rating, it is what it is, and I’ll stay on as long as this is the safest way to display my photos.

MemberHI! I’ve wondered that too. 😛
This is from the 500px site regarding views and likes:
“Users who are not logged in to 500px can also vote (Like and Favourite) photos using a “Starter Account”, however these votes do not count towards the photo’s Pulse or the photographer’s Affection score.”
Thanks for the comments.
About the Zaandam, it’s one from some backdated folders which I sorted through, hoping to find some nice pics. The reason I chose this one was just the sky and the triangular reflection. Your suggestion will definitely be kept in mind for other boat shots.Kimera
MemberThose are my thoughts exactly, browneyedgirl … DO NOT visit this site just before, during, or right after a meal!

Member… oh ya, an addition: a Sony Handycam. Not even HD. It has a mini-tripod I use as a handle.

Member@ dont care – for Christmas my sister gave me her Canon Rebel XS, with the kit 18-55mm. My brother-in-law added to it with a 75-300mm.
Another friend just gave me a box full of filters, including 2 close-ups, a few tints, and a Polarizing.
I don’t have much in the way of gear but, since I ride the bus (never gotten a driver’s license), minimal equipment is practical for me.Kimera
Member@ browneyedgirl,
The more I experiment with this camera (it’s my first DSLR so I’m relatively new to just how many features and modes are on it), the better I get at choosing the right setting for ‘that’ shot, and my reflexes are quicker.
Pretty soon I won’t even remember what ‘P’ was for! LOL … oh ~ and to be honest I absolutely despise that green box setting! Dumb flash goes up every time … it’s like when I was at the fireworks in July and all these little pop pop pops are going off .. and not the fireworks!
I currently may use P sometimes, but I haven’t needed to lately. I guess I just meant that one shouldn’t feel as if it’s not permitted any more .. sometimes it’s fun! click click click ..
.. one more thing I’ve stopped using is automatic focus on the lens. It’s too slowwww … I can focus faster manually.

MemberHave fun with your camera. Find out all it can do by taking several shots of the same object while using all the different settings to see how they work.
If you like using auto or program, use it! If you know full manual including ISO, aperture, shutter, etc etc etc .. I don’t think that means you ‘aren’t allowed’ to use A or P any more, as if it were punishable.
Sometimes I put it in auto just for the sake of instant readiness in case ‘that’ photo opp comes up and I wouldn’t have time to fiddle with anything.
Who’s judging, anyway?

MemberIn one of the couple pictures, a guy is standing in front of the door’s stained glass window. He looks like he’s wearing Don Giovanni’s hat from Mozart’s opera.
I hope that wasn’t an intentional attempt at ‘art’.Kimera

Membercameraclicker; actually the blur was already there as I panned on them from the bus window. I just thought the colour would make it mean something.
the function was a ‘region out of focus’, using a feathered radial greyscale around the two young people. I use a couple of freebies; one called Photoscape, and Photofiltre. There’s no way I can afford Photoshop! Gimp is a steep learning curve that I may eventually decide to climb, but for now I really just want to take photos for the sake of it.
