Yes, new equipment obsoletes old equipment. No, new equipment doesn’t ‘obsolete proper exposure’. It makes proper exposure of a far greater dynamic range possible.
dicksforeyesParticipantIncidentally, that guy charges $1100 for headshot session, so those images might be worth looking at.
dicksforeyesParticipantIf you want to include more, you zoom out or move the camera back.

dicksforeyesParticipantWhat I’m saying is it’s not even clear what you are trying to achieve. You’re just pointing and shooting and boosting the colors. Pick some photos that you think are amazing and try to do them yourself.
You could post the photos you want to emulate here so we can see what you’re trying to do.
dicksforeyesParticipantHeadshots are technically ok imo. Crop is a little weird. I would make sure to include the hairline and blow out the background.
Consider shooting at a slightly wider aperture to get just hint of fall-off in focus around side of the head –get a little romance in these shots.
dicksforeyesParticipant-Selective coloring
-Motorcycles
-mega contrast/saturation
These are the photos of a standard bro who got his hands on a DSLR. I guess what you have to ask yourself is if you really have any interest in photography or just cool gear and loud colors.
dicksforeyesParticipantShoot raw. Throw your reflectors and scrims and other ancient photography paraphernalia in the garbage.
Sometimes overexposure is good. Sometimes underexposure is good. Shitcan all rules that do not take into account context, like whether or not it looks good.
Discover the curves tool.
dicksforeyesParticipantTook a quick look and your stuff is pretty awful. The most significant problem is the contrast and oversharpening. It looks like you’re applying some sort of weird effect on the threshold between contrast and large-radius sharpening, like the clarity adjustment in ACR maybe. Stop doing this. Just stop. With Flickr it’s often not a good idea to sharpen at all because they apply heavy sharpening to every photo you upload. If you have a shitty lens, maybe try some barely perceptible smart sharpening, but that’s it.
Also clients are philistines whose opinions are meaningless. When you create better photos, you get clients with better taste and more money to spend.
dicksforeyesParticipantTell them no.
dicksforeyesParticipantSeriously though, fatties are revolting.
dicksforeyesParticipantCriticisms:
“You take photos of things in places.”
“I’ve seen better photos in a magazine.”
“I’ve seen better photos.”
What’s funny is that I don’t even think I’m particularly good, but apparently you guys do. Lulz.
dicksforeyesParticipantObvious troll not obvious enough?
Yeah, it’s not even fun when they’re this stupid.
dicksforeyesParticipantYou sound hungry.
dicksforeyesParticipantdicksforeyesParticipantYes, that is a good point, people do often shoot things and other people. When are photographers going to get sick of all of these objects and places already?
Maybe try shooting some fat people. At least they could be interesting and would take some creativity.
loooooooool
You sound hungry.
