So the link below is for a woman who is the sister-in-law of a family friend whom we hired 6, 7, and 8 years ago to take candid shots for us in Central Park with our daughter. At that time, we paid him $500 cash for the FAVOR of a 2.5 hour session and a DVD with all the jpegs.

He’s a gifted photographer (comes from a whole family of artists) and commands a very high price with clientele who pay in NYC, LA & Hawaii.

    His sis-in-law is no different.

You’re clearly NOT delusional, but I assume you’re aware of that 🙂

Your shot of ‘Fate’ should be in a magazine.

CC lends far more cerebral insight into your work and, as usual, his mind is in gear. I whole heatedly agree with his statement “In summary, if they were a bunch of photos on a wall in a gallery I wouldn’t think many were out of place.”

25+ years ago my sis-in-law went to F.I.T. here in Manhattan. During her photography class (the film day), the class assignment was to hand in one shot un-retouched, in color or B&W. Most of her classmates produced hundreds of shots and sifted though them daily, critiquing each other and putting them into graded piles of possibles.

Fran took her camera everywhere and waited for THE photo. She only shot once, developed it locally and handed it in.

And it won her an A.

AND the teacher was so insanely jealous of Fran’s abilities that she offered some petty criticism about shadow and composition and how she could improve them.

AND it is still hanging in the student gallery at F.I.T. to this very day.

I will take this opportunity to mention one last joke that’s been on my mind since writing this post.

If you are familiar with the comedian Louis CK you know the flavor of humor he enjoys. In a memorable interview on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart he was asked the address to his official website for fans to buy tickets to his upcoming show in NYC. His reply:

Louis: Yeah, that’s kind of complicated. I lost the site for awhile and my IT people managed to get it back just last week.

Jon: How do you LOSE a website?!

Louis: Well, we learned that a website which shows any amount of real traffic becomes a porn channel like 15 seconds after google publishes statistics on stuff like that. So for a while going to my site was a redirect to a pretty damn good hard-core site which I enjoyed very much once I was told my site was bringing folks there. I mean, I didn’t even tell my computer guy about it because I thought “Hell, how will I ever get back to see part 2 of the farm girl in daisy dukes with her half-sister?” But, you know, something had to be done for me to make money for child support.

Stop the Gaussian blur mask. Even untrained eyes can spot it.

Stop the selective color. It’s well-received in very, very few instances.

Stop HDR in post. Just don’t.

Stop the Gaussian blur mask AND selective color AND post-HDR together.

Mostly, don’t upload an entire memory card full of images for folks to pick through. It’s exhausting. 10 at most.

I don’t see what the photographer missed – IMHO, from the description, it appears that the father’s actions were completely extemporaneous, taking everyone by surprise. I’m not sure how any photographer at a ceremony could be prepared for such an eventuality.

As a hobbyist, my eyes do not see a missed opportunity capturing the moment, and neither did quite a few hundred thousand others.

But seriously, do wedding photogs run into such situations at the ceremony usually? Serendipitous, fast-paced moments at a carefully choreographed – normally slow-moving – wedding procession at which most families will say “Thank heaven he caught that!”

I am not a site moderator, it was indeed just sarcasm.

Apart from the foul language, I am in agreement with your statement that this site has declined over the last year secondary to internet pilfering.  You make a good argument that many discussions have neither been updated nor even followed because of these ‘uninvited guests.’

These Nikon folks have apparently created a pulse-meter in their whole setup which detects a rise in heart rate to determine what Dory is ‘excited’ to see.

I want to KNOW when we’re out for a late night walk if she ‘gets the irony’ of the rapper in the penthouse of my building get out of his Bugatti and steps over the homeless guy sitting on the curb. If Nikon’s got that licked, I’ll invest in them for sure.

It has been said that those who pen disparaging comments are screaming their envy at others.

Awe, don’t be jealous Sharra. People CAN develop a sense of wit. Practice makes perfect. I’ll be rooting for you!!  🙂
