ParticipantHey everyone!
I’m just curious on your thoughts about these youtube pages that offer help videos. I’ve seen some where the photographers are just terrible, but they have thousands of subscribers/views.
What do you think of the main ones?
SLR Lounge, Matt Granger, FroKnowsPhoto?
I love SLR Lounge because post production pye is a very likeable guy, and he always explains what he does and why he does it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s mostly (98% of it) post production. Which is good… but I’d like to know how they capture some of the images they do.
Matt Granger (Thatnikonguy) I find is very bad. I mean, he loves what he does which is what it is all about… but he should have kept it to himself. I suppose he’d be helping the VERY beginners of photography. He is a ‘professional’ photographer from Australia where he does weddings, and portraiture. If you go to his website his images are sub-par. His youtube videos feature images that aren’t good at all.
FroKnowsPhotos (Jared Polin) is good in my opinion, but a lot of people perceive him wrongly. He offers criticism on photos that other people take and they get offended because they don’t agree with what he says, even though it’s just what he’d do differently. I love his videos, and I loves his photography.
Anyways, that’s just my opinions on these 3. What do you guys think? Are there any others that I should check out?

ParticipantThe GRID: http://kelbytv.com/thegrid/
Joe McNally has an entertaining blog: http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/2008/03/10/da-grip/, and you can see a video of this topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDsx3-FWfwk
Digital REV is more hardware but it is interesting (at least to me, having an attachment to HK): http://www.digitalrev.com/article/stuck-at-home-photos-idea/NjgxMDQxNjM_A
There are lots of videos you can explore by starting at the links above. Enjoy!

ParticipantI love DigitalRev, Kai is f’ng nuts. As far as actually learning the gear.. I’d say Mark Wallace, Gavin Hoey, Brian Petersen, Joe McNally
Matt Granger is an asshole — Literally made a video “how to photograph ugly people”.. Really?
FroKnotsPhotos – Think he’s most of a post process guy (as is Gavin Hoey but teaches the complete workflow process).. They all have different styles and processes..
I’d definitely recommend Mark Wallace.. He updates quite frequently and has his own live workshops (free) and well over 100 or so vids on adoramatv an starts basically from unboxing your camera all the way up the technical latter..
