I don’t think my work is good enough to be pro and I don’t have proper gear to do indoor photography, but a friend who cannot afford a professional asked me to take their maternity photos. Even after explaining why it’s important to have a professional capture these once in a lifetime moments they still insisted.
Giving it my best I took some pictures, I can post more but would like suggestions for editing:

For some background her shirt is black, his shirt is dark gray. The tarp had dark teal look to it. I didn’t use flash, but had two lights behind them (no diffusers). I would have used flash, but it cast a dark shadow and I didn’t have enough room to move them forward. I know I need a real lighting kit and I’m open to suggestions there too.
I use Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop Elements 11, any suggestions for what I should do to fix color skin tone and/or contrast? I only have one friend who tells me how horrible my edits are, but he doesn’t like anything that looks even slightly “photoshopped.” I know you all will be brutally honest and I wouldn’t have posted if I wasn’t asking for it.
