June 5, 2013 at 5:36 pm #10468ConcernedParticipantFor fauxtogs to charge for weddings – is a disgrace. Why charge until you have your technique down?
If I was this bride.. I would be so upset. Who wants to look like they are wearing a mud mask during their wedding?
Oh for the love of all that is good in masking! lol
I hate to see people pay over $1000 for a photographer to take these type of photos!! Focus people.. focus!!!
Poles coming out of peoples heads… not to mention.. focus.. coloring.. there are just so many things wrong with this photo!
And dont forget the blurry engagement photos ahead of time!! The arm looks like it has some green mold on it… not to mention some swirly pattern behind the ladies head.
Disgusted.
June 5, 2013 at 6:57 pm #10471iliketagParticipantOn the upside, there is definitely hope for a lot of these Faux’s. I’ve looked back at the early, early work of a lot of photographer’s I admire on flickr… Some, I was surprised to see, were on par with some of these lesser Faux’s (NOT the ones who are too far gone/refuse to learn -ie Cain).
I think maybe if we continue to reach out to some of these folks they will take a hard look at themselves and realize they aren’t delivering the quality that clients deserve. Now, this is definitely not going to be all of them… but I’m pretty stubborn and I’ve stopped charging because I’ve realized that, while I am better than a lot of the people we poke at, I still can’t deliver on a consistent quality that I think is up to my standards. If people want to gift me for my time/gas, awesome. I’ll accept a gift, but I’m not going to charge them until I’m ready – and when I am, my prices will be reflective of my work and not this “$500 for a wedding and all your photos in a disk!” nonsense.
When I get married I am going to pay for quality. I’ve had my eye on a photographer and saving my pennies since 2008. She runs around 4k for a wedding (complete with album and a canvas, thankfully!) and is a wonderful woman I admire greatly.
Not everyone feels their photos are as important when they have budget goggles on… and I think a lot of people regret it down the road.June 7, 2013 at 3:28 am #10521happyfaceParticipantJune 7, 2013 at 3:29 am #10522happyfaceParticipantJune 7, 2013 at 3:33 am #10523happyfaceParticipantAn alien? I maybe should have put those last ones in the same post, sorry guys?!
It seems that everyone in the UK military with a camera is now a photographer……..shame this is what most of them churn out!
June 10, 2013 at 7:59 am #10582MGParticipantThis person has been spamming every facebook group out to get ‘likes’ for their business page. After 5 years of study if this is what you produce I’d be asking for my money back.
June 10, 2013 at 9:56 am #10590ThomasParticipantFor anyone wondering what comment I posted on Cains photo it was something like this:
“Using the excuse that different monitors and devices show images at different brightness is ridiculous. I’d need to power my monitor with plutonium to be able to see this image correctly. I suggest you remove it”
Something to that effect anyway….
June 10, 2013 at 10:20 am #10592ThomasParticipantSo this guy https://www.facebook.com/X9Photography I’m sure you would all remember if you have seen it.
Has decided to remove his page and I found out yesterday that he is starting up again as MS Photography (or something along those lines).I’ll keep my eyes open and post a link to whatever endeavor he decides to go for this time.
He actually said to my friend, “I see you are promoting Tom’s FB page a lot, why don’t you do that for me?”
My friend just panicked and said she would do it in future. I said she should have just told him the truth about his work being a gigantic sack of man balls wrapped up in scrotum. The reason my friend promotes me is because people love my work and actually want to hire me, if only they would…The guy has no job (our of choice I believe), and is living on benefits in a free house (supplied by the council). He has a young baby and is obviously desperate to make some money but is going about it completely the wrong way. He is one of those who seems to think that photography is just owning a camera and getting paid to take pictures instead of people doing it themselves.
June 10, 2013 at 11:39 am #10604dont.careParticipantThomas, he’s right.. “Different monitors, blah blah..”
That’s why we professional video/photo/etc spend around $1,200 – $3000+ for monitors and then calibrate or have them calibrated. When color matters, hardware matters, as does calibration. A $300.00 gaming monitor is nice, but it’s a far far cry from the true representation of colors generated by something designed for a specific task vs. an all arounder. =O I hate that excuse, “Everybodies monitors different!”
Well, from Exposure to WB to Post to Print is what matters to us.
June 10, 2013 at 9:16 pm #10666WillParticipantJune 10, 2013 at 9:23 pm #10669cass335ParticipantThis photo concerns me. This is a kid looks like she is 2 (based on the other pics in the album). why is she so close to this water without a parent nearby? Seems really unsafe to me.
June 10, 2013 at 9:55 pm #10674iliketagParticipantOh boy Cass, that makes me super nervous! Too many kids, even teenagers and sometimes adults, get swept away by rivers… even ones that appear to be slow moving!
June 11, 2013 at 3:35 am #10684youkonoaijinParticipantThese are from one of the other photographers in my local Rocky Horror shadow cast. I am not perfect by any means and have never charged for my services, but I hate that I am considered on equal ground with this other girl as far as the cast is concerned. Below are a few examples of her work from the last show weekend.
and the whole album here:

I’m not crazy, right? I just feel that on the public cast gallery meant that these are terrible representations of what we are capable of. Again, I know I am far from perfect myself but here is an album that I shot to compare hers with:
