Yes, Pelham, I do like when people put up or shut up, especially when being judgemental/giving critique.  Absolutely.

Never even heard of DPC prior to you mentioning it.  What little time I do have (and fuck you for the insinuation I spend fuck loads of time online without knowing shit about me. I just happen to be really really good and an incredibly fast reader.. and multitasker), I spend on digital-photogrpahy-school.com/forums where I’m a moderator. Look me up, BigFuzzy.  I’ve written literally hundreds of critiques that have helped people and where people have thanked me, offered me their children, whatever.. and you know what, that don’t mean jack shit (though it is a lot more than you piddly two ribbon winners..whooppee).

I’d like to think that I’m a pretty fucking busy guy and that my life is certainly “real” , so again, fuck you. When was the last time you were considered a world expert (ps I was 27 at the time) on anything, much less asked to testify about your expertise at the highest levels of a court dealing with such world defining issues/events. Call our press offices, ask for Mr. Borrelli, and talk to me about what a “real” life you have.. I dare you.

My desire to have people put up or shut up is perfectly legit.  You don’t have to like it, but it’s legit.  Those who get defensive know it’s because they probably have no right to be judging others.  It’s why my work has been prominently pasted in my profile.  Might not be earth shatteringly great work, but I sure as hell believe it backs up my words.  Anyone can talk. Anyone.
Anyway.. thought this website forum would be fun.. all I’m generally seeing (not all of you folks of course!) are a bunch of pedantic holier than thou judgemental pricks not willing to back up their words.. I think I’m leaving this place… waste of time.

I never attacked you personally, btw, with the remark about people spending way too much time here.  However you chose to read into it that I meant you.  That’s your problem, not mine.

Yes, I agree that you have very impressive real life creds.  No, I am not a world-famous expert or participated in international tribunals. Again, tremendous kudos to you on that front.  Mind, I am an Army brat, and have plenty of friends in the military, from former Marines to some who are very high up in DND, so rest assured that I’m going to be checking out your creds.

But have you never noticed that the main raison d’etre behind this site is pretty much nothing but to take a run at fauxtogs?  Am I the only one doing any kind of trash talking?  And usually any comments I make are pretty modest by comparison to the usual ‘OMFG what the hell were they thinking’ comments.

Anyway I sense that my words are falling on deaf ears, and I have better things to do.  And I can back up my words anytime.  But on this site, that would be pointless, so I’m not going to bother.

It’s exactly like someone said.. a food critic doesn’t have to be a renown chef to judge food well. And when they pointed that out, you derided them and said, essentially, “you’re wrong because you’re just mad at me for calling out your husband.” Does that really make someone wrong?

 

Basically, you demonstrated exactly why people should not post their work. You evaluated the validity of a comment not on the merit of the comment, but on an irrelevant point. And you call yourself capable, so imagine how those whom you deride will act.

 

There’s your reasoning for why you’re wrong. You demonstrated it all by yourself.

Seeing as  how the proprietors of this site define being a photographer as: “owning more than one lens, and most of all knowing about basic lighting and composition”, how about they post links to their personal photography so those poor ‘fauxtographers’ can see how it’s done??? … seeing as how they regard themselves as Judges for the rest of the people in the photography business out there.  Picking apart the work is one thing, declaring that someone is Not a ‘photographer’ at all, simply because you deem their work unworthy, is something else. So, yeah, in short, Put up or Shut up.
