On the upside, there is definitely hope for a lot of these Faux’s. I’ve looked back at the early, early work of a lot of photographer’s I admire on flickr… Some, I was surprised to see, were on par with some of these lesser Faux’s (NOT the ones who are too far gone/refuse to learn -ie Cain).
I think maybe if we continue to reach out to some of these folks they will take a hard look at themselves and realize they aren’t delivering the quality that clients deserve.

Now, this is definitely not going to be all of them… but I’m pretty stubborn and I’ve stopped charging because I’ve realized that, while I am better than a lot of the people we poke at, I still can’t deliver on a consistent quality that I think is up to my standards. If people want to gift me for my time/gas, awesome. I’ll accept a gift, but I’m not going to charge them until I’m ready – and when I am, my prices will be reflective of my work and not this “$500 for a wedding and all your photos in a disk!” nonsense.

When I get married I am going to pay for quality. I’ve had my eye on a photographer and saving my pennies since 2008. She runs around 4k for a wedding (complete with album and a canvas, thankfully!) and is a wonderful woman I admire greatly.
Not everyone feels their photos are as important when they have budget goggles on… and I think a lot of people regret it down the road.
