Dare I suggest that it maybe a cultural thing?
Dare away! I doubt it is cultural though. It seems to cut across cultures. And, it varies dramatically within a single generation of a single family. My wife, her parents, and youngest sister have definite ideas about what they want a photo to look like. A couple of my wife’s sisters really don’t care about the quality at all. They will happily download family photos I have posted on Flickr at 800 px wide, and will have them printed at Walmart! The photos look horrible, and they already know that if they ask me, I will print them using my printer and the original files, for free! Any image will do and they don’t want to bother me. Seeing the quality of their prints drives me crazy though.
