Daddy Is A Backdrop

We get that the focus of this photo is the kids, but fauxtog, did you really have to grey out the dad?

  1. It might (MIGHT) be appropriate if it were in memory of him, but clearly he’s alive. So it’s not appropriate. It’s creepy.

  2. It’s the gray hands holding the kids that I find extra creepy

Did the guy die or something?

This is what our family photo would have looked like… if Daddy hadn’t left Mom for that stripper. Thanks to Photoshop. It’s as if Daddy never left.

Just once I would like to ask one of these morons to explain their reasoning behind one of these awful spot color jobs. I’d like to ask them what they had in mind when they did it, what they were trying to convey and what is it about the finished product that they thought worthy of public release. It’s much like the kind of conversation I’d like to have with people who get their necks tattooed.

    • . . . or get their tongue pierced, and then place a 5 pound orb in it, resulting in a speechi impediment so severe they cannot be understood . . . . .

I don’t think tattoos on peoples necks are even in the same ballpark as fauxtogs that use horrible pictures they spot color to death. I have tattoos on my neck.. and I happen to be a professional photographer. This is about people who take crappy pictures and call them professional.. not what someone looks like. Some of the greatest photographers I know are heavily tattooed and pierced. Haven’t we all learned not to judge a book by it’s cover?

      • @Jim – Sorry, don’t see the correlation.

@Heather – While I agree with most of what you said, your last sentence, “Haven’t we all learned not to judge a book by it’s cover?”, kinda reeks of irony, lol. After all, isn’t that the exact reason we all love coming to youarenotaphotographer? LOL

    Ughhhh!Why, oh dear Lord, why?

Like how this was a “shoot” in the “studio” with a “backdrop,” disappointingly flat lighting, and “props” (which is really distracting gift boxes in the background the fauxtog was too incompetent/lazy to move them out of the way). It also looks like GreyDad is giving the kids the Heimlich maneuver. To top it off, he tried to turn crap into gold with an “artistic” edit and managed to turn it into vomit.

    • NicCole

Yeah, I was going to complain about the props too. It’s either a simple edit, or just move your lazy a@@ to get them out of the shot. C’mon people!

WTF! Maybe should have made daddy green, hands already look like the hulk is holding the kids. Why, why, why. I agree with James, would like to hear the reasoning of all these spot drama’s!

  10. Talk about making the father feel insignificant! Photographing children with their parents is all about the beautiful bond they have. This image completely undermines this.

I’d also really love to know what the purpose of graying out the dad and making him look dead was… This could have been a decent picture without spot coloring and with better lighting and a better since of what you actually have in the frame when you take the picture.

The worst thing about these bad photos is that people actually like them! I don’t understand how anyone can love something like this! Would you hang a large print of this on your wall?

  13. dodie

I love all the crappy looking props in the background too… ugh!

  14. We need to look at the bright side 😉 at least their selection was done well!!! Even if it was..completely unneeded…or wanted…

  15. This could have been a nicer picture…
