This is one of my favorite episodes of Columbo, and I watched part of it last evening. The murderer is a Beverly Hills photographer living large and the sense you get throughout the episode is that such a career, in the 70’s, was glamorous and replete with eccentricities not available to the ‘common man.’

Was anyone here on the board a photographer in the 1970’s? I know that photography back then was an expensive hobby so I guess you needed some semblance of working capital to get the business going. But once established was it a sure thing to that a Rolls Royce would be parked outside your palacial mansion?

The text at the link you provided:

Famous photographer Paul Galesko wants to kill his wealthy but annoying wife

I think the “wealthy but annoying wife” probably explains where the mansion and car came from.
